Here in Washington State, we remain committed to protecting the rights of trans and gender diverse people. Governor Ferguson signed a bill this past week ensuring Washingtonians can change the gender designation on their state IDs and birth certificates without fear of their privacy being violated.

My heart breaks for trans folks in Kansas who are being notified by the state that they need to immediately surrender their drivers licenses. Failing to do so and driving with a now invalid could lead to arrest, charges, and revocation of driving privileges.

45 years ago today, Toronto police raided four gay bathhouses, arrested nearly 300 people and sparked such fierce backlash and protests from the city's queer community that it resulted in fully consecrating the Pride movement in Canada. “Gay ideology” usually refers to gay people being visible, expressing our identities, forming communities, fighting for our rights, etc. Now “gender ideology” evokes similar in relation to trans folk. And when LGBT people become an “ideology,” our humanity degrades and we become targets for erasure.
