Real concerns that the Government’s U-turn on the #BusinessRatesBetrayal will be a wholly inadequate sticking plaster. The unfair & dodgy revaluation MUST be scrapped or bills will still spiral. #Pubs need the promised genuine & PERMANENT reform of unfair & outdated #BusinessRates system.

So true. There are many well documented and clearly evidenced ways that well-run pubs are a force for great good in our communities. Problem drinking is far more a result of cheap off-sales of high strength drinks, and overwhelmingly occurs hidden away from the supervised, social setting of the pub.

@labourlewis.bsky.social is spot on. 👌 Soliciting for corporate and private equity will only lead to "growth" for a few at the top. Workers, independent SMEs and communities never feel the benefit. The pub #pub and #beer sector is a case study in this folly, but it applies across the board.

The looming cut in #businessrates relief is a huge blow for #retail and #hospitality. For a great many 75% slashed to 40% is business-changing on its own, even without NI and other changes. The relief should not have been cut before the broken system was fully reformed as promised. #politicslive
