Site Update: New Archetypes and Player Cards. I have added a new Archetypes tab to the player pages on TheStanleyCap.com and also updated the player cards to use these archetypes. Archetypes provide a data driven evaluation of the various strengths and weaknesses of a players performance.

I made some upgrades to the draft pick simulator. You can now specify up to 16 picks which should cover most/all teams drafts. I also added some additional pick ranges to choose (i.e. 6-10 overall). Finally, you can now run the simulation 1, 5 or 10 times. www.thestanleycap.com/tools/draft_...

Did your team trade for some draft picks today? Were you wondering the quality of players you reasonably expect from those draft picks down the road? Use this draft pick simulator to see the types of players that were taken with those picks in the past. www.thestanleycap.com/tools/draft_...

Anyway, just a fun little tool for those wondering what the value of the draft picks your favourite team just acquired, or just traded away, is. Maybe you get lucky and get some top tier players. Maybe you get a bunch of busts. Have some fun with it and share your results. (5/5)

010

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 06/03/2026

Of course, if you run the simulation again, you may not be so lucky. This is my second simulation result. (4/5)

120

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 06/03/2026

Click the Run Simulation button and the system will produce a list of three players selected at random from the 2007-2018 NHL drafts that fit that criteria and then show you the kind of player your draft lottery tickets might produce. For example, I got Berggren Lehner and Meloche for Weegar. (3/5)

110

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 06/03/2026

With this tool you can specify up to 10 draft picks by round or by overall draft pick. So for the Weegar trade you could estimate that one of the picks will be 33-38th overall and the other two would be in the 40-48 overall range. (2/5)

100

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 06/03/2026

New Feature for Trade Deadline Day Weegar was traded for three 2nd round picks. Want to know what a reasonable expectation of value is for those picks? Now you can. Introducing the Draft Pick Value Simulator which can be found under the Analytics menu. (1/5) www.thestanleycap.com/tools/draft_...

Yes, this will cost The Stanley Cap a valuable revenue stream so this decision wasn't made lightly but the privacy of our users matters. We do no collect any unnecessary data and we would never share it with or sell and visitor tracking data anyone.

For those unfamiliar, these reports show individual and on-ice statistics for skaters, goalies, lines, defense pairs, 5v4 PP units, 4v5 PK units and teams. You can also see NHL edge data for skaters and teams in tabular form which makes comparing players much easier than you can on the NHL website.

Site Update: I have added all of the hockey analytics reports that are on Puckalytics.com to TheStanleyCap.com. You can access the reports from the STATS pull down menu. These will exactly match the Puckalytics reports so you can choose which look you like best.

1. Not everyone disagrees. 2. Let me worry about the bottom dollar. 3. I think the color scheme in the example will work for colorblind people. What do you think of that color scheme? Would it work for you as an alternative to red=bad, blue=good?

100

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 26/10/2025

I ran this through through this website and it should work find for someone colorblind. This image is a simulation of how it would look to someone colorblind. bioapps.byu.edu/colorblind_i...

010

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 26/10/2025

I understand that people don't like red=good and blue=bad in my player cards. I cannot switch them around because my mind doesn't think that way. However, I am willing to switch to green is good. Thoughts on this color scheme?

Update to Player Cards: You can now find 2023-24 and 2024-25 player cards on player pages which is useful for players who have not played the minimum 5GP this season to have a card. NHL Edge data doesn't go back any further so it doesn't make sense to go back any further using this format.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 22/10/2025

If you want to use or share these feel free but follow the terms of use as shown next to the player card on the players page. Mostly, provide a link back and/or acknowledgement of the source (The Stanley Cap), don't overburden our servers with unapproved hotlinks, and fair use rules apply.

100

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 22/10/2025

Here is a sample player card for sharp shooter Pavel Dorofeyev where you can clearly see he has had a hard accurate shot for a few seasons now. He's not much of a skater though.

100

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 22/10/2025

Here is where I am at with the player cards. I know some people prefer red=bad and blue=good but my eyes don't work that way and that isn't how the website is set up either. So think Red=Hot=Good, Blue=Cold=Bad.

060

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 22/10/2025

Not good for color blind people which is why I think people use blue instead of green.
