As an example, here is Nick Suzuki's player card.

Of course, if you run the simulation again, you may not be so lucky. This is my second simulation result. (4/5)

Click the Run Simulation button and the system will produce a list of three players selected at random from the 2007-2018 NHL drafts that fit that criteria and then show you the kind of player your draft lottery tickets might produce. For example, I got Berggren Lehner and Meloche for Weegar. (3/5)

With this tool you can specify up to 10 draft picks by round or by overall draft pick. So for the Weegar trade you could estimate that one of the picks will be 33-38th overall and the other two would be in the 40-48 overall range. (2/5)

BTW, you can copy the URLs from the Team Cards tab and post the image file directly in your posts if you want.

I ran this through through this website and it should work find for someone colorblind. This image is a simulation of how it would look to someone colorblind. bioapps.byu.edu/colorblind_i...

I understand that people don't like red=good and blue=bad in my player cards. I cannot switch them around because my mind doesn't think that way. However, I am willing to switch to green is good. Thoughts on this color scheme?

Here is a sample player card for sharp shooter Pavel Dorofeyev where you can clearly see he has had a hard accurate shot for a few seasons now. He's not much of a skater though.

Here is where I am at with the player cards. I know some people prefer red=bad and blue=good but my eyes don't work that way and that isn't how the website is set up either. So think Red=Hot=Good, Blue=Cold=Bad.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 22/10/2025

A lot of people don't like Red indicating Good and Blue indicating Bad. My brain is completely re-wired the other way around. No guarantee that I'll change things up, but which of these do you like better? Blue=Good or Red=Good (I probably need to tone down the color scales regardless).

Working on some player cards (team cards coming soon too). I still have some tweaking but what are your thoughts so far? This guy seems pretty good.

I am restricting rating of players to users who have logged in which brings me to the next update. I have implemented user accounts. You can register/login to user accounts using the links at the upper left of the page. Links will change to My Account and Logout when logged in.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 06/09/2025

You may have also noticed contract ratings on the player page. This is where you all can rate player contracts. You can rate contracts on a scale of 1 (Very Player Friendly) to 5 (Very Team Friendly). Rating Averages will be shown for contracts that have ratings.

120

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 06/09/2025

The first is a slight re-design of the player pages. I have merged the contract, stats and news/opinion tabs into a single tab shown by default and to make it less messy I have hidden past contracts as default. You can click 'show' to see past contracts if desired.

Site Update: The Advanced Stats tab on player pages is now working. Here is what Kucherov's looks like. Pink shading is above average, blue shading is below average. I think people might find the NHL Edge Stats section particularly interesting. thestanleycap.com/players/niki...

Minor update to account for the new salary cap estimates. The Cap Summary Table on the team pages now show the new salary cap values as well as how much cap space teams have in future seasons. Beyond 2027-28 we estimate the salary cap using a likely conservative ~2.5% annual increase.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 07/12/2024

New Feature on TheStanleyCap.com: 10 Year Team Performance Trends These are 10 year charts that show how the team has performed compared to the rest of the league as well as vs playoff and non-playoff teams. You can access these from the team pages in the Advanced Stats tab.

New update to TheStanleyCap.com. Team pages now have each teams Draft History so you can easily see how Pittsburgh's recent NHL drafts have gone.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 27/11/2024

New Feature added to TheStanleyCap.com. Team and Player Statistics have been added to team and player pages. Right now I only have NHL stats for players but I am looking into getting AHL/Junior/European leagues too.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 18/11/2024

Some interesting salary cap maneuvering to make this work. Seamus Casey and Simon Nemec were called up before Bastian was put on LTIR which created enough LTIR space to recall Bowers, Dowling, Foote and DeSimone after returning Casey and Nemec back to AHL.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 11/11/2024

Second, on individual team pages in the Cap Summary/Cap Hit tab I have added a 'Cap Summary' table which summarizes the cap hits of the teams current roster for the current and future seasons.

The Stanley Cap @thestanleycap.com · 11/11/2024

Two updates to TheStanleyCap.com. First, I have added four new columns (Forwards, Defense, Goalies, Other) to the home page team salary cap summary. These indicate how much projected cap space the team will use for each group. Forwards, Defense and Goalies include players on IR but not LTIR.

New feature: Buyout calculator. On the players page and current contract table you will now see a calculator icon at the end of each future season row. Clicking it will take you to a buyout information page buying out that contract prior to that season.

Another update: Suspended players will be shown like this in the team cap tables.

Minor update to TheStanleyCap.com To organize LTIR/Buyout/Buried/Retained Salaries better these are now in a 'Cap Inefficiencies' section. I also highlighted players names red for players on IR to make it more visible that they are on IR.
