Kicking off a new series over at CD-ROM journal: covering Daiso’s ¥100 ultrabudget game series. Just how much game can you even get for ¥100? You’d be surprised! Some really interesting stuff in here - for less than a dollar a game, they couldn’t afford to be picky. cdrom.ca/games/the-ga...

Much of the grounded historical work I'm able to carry out in my writing and research is only possible due to the sheer volume of magazines Joey has helped preserve. My recent "Readers" for example would not exist otherwise: ogrerun.com/the-alice-so...

The Alice Soft Reader

During the 1990s, Alice Soft and ELF emerged as the twin rulers of eroge. As Dengeki Hime famously put it, “Elf of the East and Alice Soft of the West” (美少女ゲーム界の東の雄がエルフだとすれば、西の雄はアリスソフト)…

And as mentioned in my guidelines, I try to elevate trans, queer, and non-male, non-white writers as best I can. Pitches are of course open to all but The Stacks exists in part to platform those who aren’t typically given a chance

Ace Combat is at its best when it dials back the jingoism and focuses on enjoyably repeatable missions. It is at its worst when it focuses on grand set pieces. The flight model in 7 is great but like hell am I replaying it on Ace when the missions are half an hour long
