Hear me out... flowing hand soap on a shower puff. Even the eco-friendly sprays would set my asthma off, but this I can do while the deep conditioning treatment does its thing on my hair.

Hey fam, you have until EOD tomorrow to order one of these! I will be getting a small amount of extra stock, but these have been selling fast and it's far better to pre-order and let me know the exact size/fit you want than to wait around. <3 230 have sold so far! pepperraccoon.com

After doing almost no markets since last November, when I overdid it, causing my lymphoedema to progress badly into my hand, I now suddenly find myself with a full calendar for the rest of the year. Can someone please remind me to update the market calendar on the website tomorrow? And sew stock?

TY! Now I’m psyching myself up to go change the sheets, have a bath (soak the gardening out of my muscles) and head to bed at a reasonable hour (which I’m very bad at doing).

Wow! They’re just like growing wild in places around here.

I’m not very good with hydrangeas. I gave mine a huge prune last year, and they’re both looking very lush and bushy, so maybe the flowers will be better this year.

I dead-headed the hydrangeas. It all started because I spotted the asparagus fern (weed) in the driveway on the way home from my walk last Monday, and somehow I spent about 20 hours gardening since then. bsky.app/profile/thes... I also got through the heel turn on my socks over the weekend.
A pair of raspberry diagonal rib socks on my needles. I’m knitting them top-down two-at-a-time using the magic loop method.

Which reminds me, I should text and ask what she is planting this year so I can swap her stuff for courgettes…

The old neighbour used to encourage us just to raid hers, but the people who bought when she left are younger and keep to themselves. The neighbour on the far side has said she’d pick ones hanging over the fence for us if we need them. 😉

Yep. I’m early 50s and don’t remember it being served up at home until I was about 10. And my parents were adventurous with food (and gardening). I don’t think I tried avocado until I was at University.

@growfromhere.bsky.social Kaye, can you successfully propagate Orange Berries by cutting the runners out and putting them on new soil? They seem like they would grow anywhere… I’ve had to pull a bunch out because they had spread right through that bed, so I’ve got them in water at the moment.

Sadly, the one lemon that we thought our tree was going to provide this year has disappeared. (We’ve had it more than twenty years and have had about 3 so far.) It was there last Monday, but yet ready to pick (I checked). It wasn’t there yesterday. I weeded thoroughly underneath looking for it. 😭

It was rather alarming how lifeless the main vege bed was as I turned it over. It had been completely overgrown with strawberries, and the soil level was a good foot below the top of the sides. There were no worms. Just a few nymphs (wētā or cicada?) and the odd spider. Luckily, we compost. 🪱

The garden is coming along. It has been years since I’ve had the energy. This year, I have done almost all the work myself; about 20 hours over the last week (R came along and tidied up piles of weeds after me.)

Absolutely! If you’ve aged out of the program, should you get breast cancer, it’s more likely to be slow growing (unlike the poor people who get it before they hit screening age, where it’s usually aggressive). Keep up with knowing your normal in the meantime, and get any changes checked.

Overcast here, was raining earlier, so I may have to give up on sifting the rest of the soil (greatly helping with weed reduction) and just hand weed the top and turnover the rest.

You are always very welcome to come hang out with me in my workroom. You’d have pretty much all the tools you’d need at your disposal, and you can just leave when you’re done.

I might have gone a bit extra with the 🥚 for brunch today. It’s not my fault, the FB algorithms have decided my reels should be full of French chefs’ tutorials, and I’m not at all mad about this. This was actually super easy. Season/whip whites. Muffin tin, yolk in middle. Bake 5 min @ 180°C.
Œuf nuage (cloud egg) on whipped avocado on an English muffin. On the other half, more of the whipped avocado, wedges of cherry tomato with balsamic glaze and dukkah.

Last night, I gave my dad a pair of socks that I'd knitted for him. They were ostensibly for his birthday; he turned 80 this year and has been very grumpy about not wanting to celebrate it. Spouse and I stayed in a cottage in Cornwall with my parents a few weeks before his birthday.

I’m guessing likely tauhou | waxeyes, but finches are another contender if they’re flocking. I very occasionally see miromiro here, but usually only in pairs.

We got a heat pump hot water cylinder late last year, and a couple of months back I had the brainwave to plant some mint beside it (our mint has always been very seasonal). It is so beautifully healthy - and it is contained. I'm thinking I might also add some basil there.

But I'm also nearly through a re-read of all the Anne books. It's kind of weird reading about her in her 40s now I'm in my 50s.

Magic Kingdom for Sale/Sold by Terry Brooks is one of my go-to cosy reads. I have most of the books in the series.

I’d pretty much given up all hope of seeing this native (to NZ) Iris flower anytime soon but just got home from a short walk in my lunch break to see this 🌱😊
Two small flowers on the native Iris. First blossoms on this plant we’ve had for maybe 3 years. Spiky green foliage surrounding

Just realised I probably should get around to rebranding the RedBubble shop... but yeah, if you've ever wanted a tee with one of my birds on, here you go. You can even pick the base colour. RedBubble produce locally in different locations around the world, so they're available to ship most places.

Any chance you could share my post below? I’m struggling to stitch because my hands are in pain so I’ll never get my cross stitch finished in time to sell before Christmas, which I’ve been relying on these past few years to get us through. Any help is amazing. 💗🫶🏼 #AoNZ #Kikorangi #nzpol

You know that thing where people used to post photos with a hidden cat? That, but for tuatara. Feel free to squee when you see it.
Without giving too much away, there is a scrubby hillside, and there is a tuatara. It’s quite small.

Most of the tee-shirt blanks up into the larger sizes are very restricted in colour, or I would have been doing the same. My designs mostly don't work so well on black or white, unfortunately. One day I'll get to do it proper proper, but I figured having something available now beats one day! 😀
