In a way, I think animation on top of filmed video would be the best way to visually represent therianthropy. Animation could show the viewer phantom limbs, for instance. Or create a visual for that tingle in my spine I feel before strong mental shifts.

Unfortunately, some folks don't seem to handle that well. Essentially, this has caused some folks to think I was being sarcastic when I genuinely appreciated them. I guess the idea of having a respectful conversation on social media is so outlandish to some that they couldn't interpret my messages.

Oh, people have gotten mad at me for lots of dumb reasons. I'll focus on the funnier side of things, though. Sometimes, it drives people mad that I … remain calm in online discussions. I may disagree, but I'll still thank conversation partners for their time, agree with some of their points, etc.

I think there's something a bit worrying that things that used to be normal parts of play for children under 12: playing that you're an animal, having a bond with a stuffed animal, dressing up with home-made accessories, are now increasingly labelled. Often with words from psychology or subcultures.

In case anyone is as confused as I was: (I assume) "ddr" stands for "dance dance revolution"? (In Germany, "DDR" is the common abbreviation for the former "German Democratic Republic", so I was confused for a bit, there – even searching for "DDR game" had resulted in "games available in the GDR" 😅)

For example, for some of us, species dysphoria can feel very similar to gender dysphoria (like it is for me). For others, it doesn't. But we can't generalize from our experiences. I've seen many claims like "it's nothing alike" or "it's basically the same". Neither of which is true for all therians.

Therianthropy is an umbrella term for a wide range of experiences. Just because you're a therian, and experience something in a specific way, doesn't mean all therians experience it the same way. And neither is any more or less #therian. It's just different variations of what we call therianthropy.

It's fascinating how furries believe that harassment and bullying are totally acceptable, as long as you only apply it to "bad guys". And since you can freely choose who to label "good" or "bad", you've just created yourself a universal excuse that morally justifies whatever the hell you want.

I subjectively feel like I have recently seen more posts that fall into the "non-human animals can just run around and do what they want" narrative, though. And it's those that I find peculiar. It feels like denying the richness in their theriotype's way of life. And with that, devaluing themselves.

Living the typical life of a mountain lion wouldn't mean more freedom. And yet, I would prefer it. Not because I would like to loose my freedom. And not to gain any magical, romanticized "nature = freedom" kind of thing. Just because I'd truly be me – however (un-/)free that may be. 3/3 #therian

One could even argue that the freedom this human form gives me is one of its greatest perks. I can travel far beyond the territory / home range I would have as a mountain lion. Food is much easier to come by. I can read. Enjoy music. And so on. No: it's not exactly "freedom" which I crave! 2/3

This may be an unpopular opinion (I'm not sure), but: It strikes me as odd how often I see posts about therianthropy going in a direction of equating being a non-human animal with total freedom and lack of any obligations. Following an anthropomorphized "nature = freedom" fallacy, so to speak. 1/3

Which I both love and hate. I love it because it shows that scientific discovery is a process. That we don't know everything. But when I'm currently creating flashcards and need to figure out what to put on the back, "have 4 competing hypotheses" is (however right it may be) not exactly helpful 😅…

As someone who originally comes from a different field (engineering / IT), it's quite fascinating to see how much and how little we know about the phylogeny of life at the same time. Which means I regularly stumble upon basic questions where, when I look for an answer, it's "we're not really sure".

It's a week with several small-ish events and a parade / march towards the end of the week (which ends in a street festival at the end of the march). There are a few commercial booths at the festival (usually sponsors and vendors from the community); no company parade trucks or anything like that.

For me, it heavily depends on what exactly we mean by dogs. But in some (or many) cases, they fall into a sort of uncanny valley where their communication is so adjusted to please human animals that my intuition for non(!)-human animal communication styles ceases to work. Which I find irritating.

It's terrifying and disheartening how often this happens in many of the communities I'm in. Passing on the exact same roots of hatred we face. We need to stand together, united. Not divide into even more groups who hate and publicly shame each other to the point of serious harm.

On 2: I'm a software dev, not a visual artist - but I'm the type that just... genuinely enjoys the act of making the software. One of the things I figured out in the more recent years is that what I want to do is *create*. I could never be a proper manager, it would distance me from making things.

What a stupid test! And: I can relate. I worked for over five years at a job and had to mask that I still couldn't recognize many of my coworkers. For some TV shows, I have to use the audio description. I don't mind, but that goes to show that accessibility features benefit many different groups.
