Pear tree #1, a Jeanne d’Arc pear, is now planted. Right now it’s 3 meters tall, but fully grown, it will be 4-6 meters (13-20 ft). I’m hoping it’ll provide some shade and privacy to the front patio and to mom’s bedroom window. Tomorrow, I’ll plant the Conference pear by the roses near the gate.

The Jeanne d’Arc pear tree (about 3 meters tall) has now been planted in the garden. Beyond it at the top left of the photo is the base of our large palm tree. In the distance on the top right is the garden wall and beside it is Mona’s basketball.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8260: Whatever genre you write, read folklore. Folklore exists because at some point, people cared so much about a certain thing that they put it into a story, and passed it down the centuries in order to keep it alive. That deserves attention.

Progress report: Mom was able to play connect four with me at breakfast today, and at lunch I made fish sticks and fries which she was able to pick up and eat without help. It was shaky and difficult, but she did it and didn’t give up.

I’m doing my best! Some days, it’s just “I ate chocolate and made myself tea” or “I took a nap.” Other days it’s “I did research for future books” or “I read a book in my genre.” And other days it’s “I petted a dog, went for a short walk, and listened to music for 20 minutes.”

No. I have had zero bandwidth for anything that isn’t taking care of my momma. But I feel like I’m right on the verge of breaking through once mom is able to be more independent. Right now, she needs help with literally everything all day and night. It’s like having a newborn.

We’re doing okay! Mom is working on recovery. It’s going to take time and patience, but it’s only been two days and she was able to brush her own teeth tonight. Slowly and with difficulty, but she did it with very minimal assistance. As for me, I got invited to a writing event on the 17-18th! -

Tonight’s low temperature is going to be 3°C/37°F! I’ve turned on our radiators and set them to turn on when the inside temperature drops to 19.5°C/67°F. Won’t be long before I’m going to have to bring the potted mandarin orange tree indoors.

Beneath the window, the wallpaper is peeling because a boiler-heated radiator used to sit there. We removed the old radiators and put in electric ones instead, but the damage to the wallpaper remains, and I’m making plans to insulate and then paint the walls, but I can only do one room at a time. -

A girl and her stuffie. Construction workers are at the end of our street with backhoes and other equipment, and they left a trailer in front of our neighbor’s house. Mona doesn’t trust them, and she brought her stuffie for moral support while she woofs in disapproval.
