The ND-C is 100% bullshit and totally meant to gaslight us. But given this is where we live now, I think it’s more important than ever for reviewers to be really thoughtful about scoring and rescues. There’s nothing preventing us from rescuing 8+ grants per SS to get us back to 50% discussed.

The rescue system exists to avoid this. R1 and 2 absolutely should have read R3s flawed review prior to SS and requested a rescue. I realize there are a lot of things working against us these days but reviewers should use the limited power they have to make sure good grants get discussed.

Agreed. And it goes beyond the colleges. My guidance counselors gave me terrible advice to apply to big public universities to get the best deal and I ended up with the most aid/scholarship at a SLAC I randomly applied to against their advice.

💯. I just wrote a promotion letter where the applicant wrote how many kids she had in her documents (FOUR! All under 10!). You better believe I took it into account when evaluating her accomplishments & I made a point to commend her for her commitment to excellence during those years.

To be fair, this one isn’t really RFK’s fault. This isn’t a vaccine failure— we don’t vaccinate against TB in the US bc the vaccine isn’t very good and it makes monitoring exposure more expensive (blood test vs. PPD).
