Wonder Boy in Monster World, on the Mega Drive. The idea that a game could support an ongoing story, a world of characters, and you could save to return later was new to me as a kid. A kind of escapism I'd never experienced before, I absolutely loved it ☺️🙂

Stop being scared of gamers, imo. One of the best things about XCOM is the understanding that you can be half way through and just... fail. Game over. Start again. It's thrilling! Give people new things. Challenge them. Stop being soft, it's turning games to homogenised mush.
