I feel like people need to learn to be okay with old games just looking old and being a bit pixelated or low res. The demand for everything to be modernised and smoothed out for modern displays is part of the issue that's fuelled this sort of shit, I think.

that was 2.5 years ago, and iirc (cant read jp) the main game showcased there was Decapolice, which *conveniently* had the plot subcontracted to an escape room company (and has been delayed 2yrs atm - but prob will be more), so until i'm given new evidence i think the best assumption is a rewrite

i was already trying to be so optimistic despite everything and level 5 went and dragged my expectations down the drain. i just hope either shit recovers or l5 goes bankrupt and nintendo buys the ip or smth

in the end its just not efficient to use AI for creative stuff if you want it to be good, so it seems to me that level5 is cheaping out on their marketing budget because even if it looks like shit less people will remember it

as a layton fan there is more nuance to this (the actual released games dont seem to have any ai, some games that originally used it seem to have had those elements completely wiped from scratch, etc) but yeah its extremely disheartening

They still do, at least Nintendo of America does. If you watch a UK Nintendo Direct you'll see that they just say "game" instead of "the [game] game" like in the US. Which means that they make the narrator record two versions of the same line every time he mentions the name of a Nintendo game.

it's just a bit stupid how hivemindy any kind of conversation about remaking any game into unreal engine got in the late 2010s

i will agree people online do generally do that but i don't think what i said aligned me with that kind of people, and the assumption hurts my ego a bit lol i agree that fanworks or hobbyist projects should never be held to the same standard as stuff made with a Proper Budget and a Dedicated Team

tbh my main issue with this kind of stuff is with the reception it used to have, where a lot of people would just insist that THIS is what nintendo games have always needed (even when it's just one guy trying to make game look good with no specific art direction)
