Thanks. It was difficult to get shots of this rather active little bird through all the twigs.

@atlanticbirding.bsky.social’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Dawn I captured this Grey-capped Pygmy Woodpecker by the Wenyu River in #Beijing just as the sun was rising on a bitterly cold morning in February. #Birds #Birding #ECK #BirdsSeenIn2026 #China #UrbanBirding

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #ShoreBirds; any bird on the shore. And I'm returning to #Thailand in 2023 for the ultimate Shorebird. Spoon-billed Sandpiper is critically endangered and I was thrilled to see this one at Pak Thale thanks to my friend @scottyastro.bsky.social #Birds #Birding #ECK
Spoon-billed Sandpiper, at Pak Thale in Phetchaburi province, Thailand. Despite recent conservation efforts leading to an improvement in survival of chicks hatched in the breeding grounds of extreme arctic east Russia, the species remains critically endangered with less than 800 individuals estimated worldwide.

@robcrank68.bsky.social's alt #BirdOfTheDay theme today, #Eating, had me reaching for a picture I've posted before. But it's one of my favourite sightings ever. A Barred Eagle-owl with a tiny chick. A gruesome, but awesome sight. See alt text. #Malaysia #Birds #Birding #ECK #UrbanBirding
Barred Eagle-owl,Ketupa sumatrana, perched in a tree with a tiny chick in its beak, perhaps only just hatched. This bird (probably one of a pair) was something of a celebrity at an urban park in a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, and locals were very keen to point out to me where to look.

@robcrank68.bsky.social set today's #BirdOfTheDay theme, #crooners, birds singing. I love the little puff of condensation from this Dunnock's breath in the cold at dawn in my garden this morning. #Birds #Birding #ECK #LincsBirding #UKBirding #Commonbirds #LocalBirding #GardenBirding
A Dunnock, Prunella modularis, stood on a concrete fence post, beak open with a tiny patch of mist coming from its breath. I think technically it's calling rather than singing but close enough for the theme I hope.

Poor photo but an addition for #BirdsSeenIn2026 in #Malaysia. Long-tailed Sibia, Tanah Rata, #CameronHighlands in March. #Birds #Birding @tonyrinaud.bsky.social
Long-tailed Sibia, Heterophasia picaoides, appeared occasionally in small flocks in the Hutan Lipur Parit Falls trail at Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands in March. Very difficult to photograph as the flock moves fast through the canopy.

@helenbennett.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #BirdSupermodel: #Birds looking like they're posing for a magazine cover. Did this Common Myna in #Oman overdo the eye liner a bit? Also Common Myna is one of the #UnsungBirds (alt theme). #twofer maybe? #birding #ECK #birdsSeenIn2026
Common Myna, Acridotheres tristis, posing while stood on bare ground with slightly ruffled feathers.

You are quite right. Red-backed was also quite common in places. There was a juvenile close to where I photographed this bird. Thanks for the correction.

@robcrank68.bsky.social set today's #BirdOfTheDay theme; #WingsOpenNotFlying, birds with their wings open when not flying. Found this Eurasian Spoonbill at Kilvington Lakes this morning. 3rd for the site. See alt text for others. #birds #birding #ECK #UKBirding #PatchBirding #Nottinghamshire
Eurasian Spoonbill, Platalea leucorodia, caught while flapping its wings, stood next to water by a bank of daisies. The black tips to the wings indicate this is an immature bird. Adults have all white wings.

Seen at Kilvington Lakes, Nottinghamshire on 4 October. Apparently only 3rd record for the site.Northern Lapwing, Vanellus vanellus, captured while spreading its wings high. Stood in muddy water. Seen at RSPB Adwick Washland, Dearne Valley, Nature Reserve, 21 September.Northern Lapwing, Vanellus vanellus, captured from directly behind while spreading its wings high. Stood in muddy water. @helenbennett.bsky.social's choice for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestBeaks Celebrating any bird with a striking colours bill. Eurasian Curlew bills can be much longer than this one on the Norfolk coast last weekend. See alt text. #birds #birding #ECK #birdsSeenIn2026 #UKBirding
Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) bills vary by age, sex and geography. Females from eastern populations can have bills much longer than this one, which may be a younger male.
