"teach your sons..." I mean I feel like "don't put your dick in an unconscious person" shouldn't be something that boys need to be taught but here we are. In case it's still not getting through, I wrote this 11 years ago. youtu.be/oQbei5JGiT8?...

2 panel comic

Panel 1 is titled “Journalist logs into Twitter”
Image shows a Pink Guy performing a high jump. He easily sails over a tall barrier that says “Racism, Nazis, Homophobia, CSAM and Bigotry”. He smiles and waves at the reader.

Panel 2 is titled “Journalist logs into BlueSky”
The Pink Guy is doing the high jump again, however, this time, a much smaller barrier just says “Smugness”. The Pink Guy is clinging to the barrier, trying to hook his leg over it. He yells “Hnnngh I CAN’T GET OVER IT”

I think a lot of bands/musicians now are used to hearing things at bedroom/headphone levels so having the sensory impact of playing in a loud environment isn’t familiar. Certainly quiet drummers and singers are better catered for now.

The Nameless Book @thenamelessbook.bsky.social · 19/06/2026
Valve amps generally sound best when they’re turned up past about 2, and when they are they start doing this amazing compression thing and become really sensitive to playing changes. So you hear yourself well and you can also vary playing dynamics more. When the levels are just right it’s awesome.

In the late 00s I did play bass in a trio where the drummer and guitarist were insanely loud on their own without a PA, so that gave me the opportunity to run my bass amp loud. Absolutely loved it. Sound engineers hated us.

The Nameless Book @thenamelessbook.bsky.social · 19/06/2026
Yeah, I’ve also mixed live sound and loud amps are impractical for all gigs below about 4-500 people as they wipe out everything else sonically.

The Nameless Book @thenamelessbook.bsky.social · 19/06/2026
As someone who’s played live in very loud bands before, the experience of a loud amp (or even better pair of amps) behind you so you don’t have to strain to be heard over the drummer is amazing. I was in a band with a bass player using a Sound City and it was great - similar to Hiwatt.
