The storm of unbridled new things coming from brain to my hand has not yet lessened. This unfinished scene is ‘surprise love’. The big dragon, when you really look, is just a little chap who likes to collect creatures. They thought they were the only one. And yet, no. They’re not alone. 🩵

The novella edition of BY THIEVES-LIGHT is here! Available on and off Amazon in epub, and for the first time in paperback! I am so excited to finally have this out at last, with another of their stories now out in SHATTER THE SUN as well.
The cover art for By Thieves-Light, without type. Vencario Eratena, a tan fellow with dark curly hair and a cloak, holding his dagger and moon-globe, standing shoulder to shoulder with Ilwyn, a tall broad ginger fellow in smithing gear, holding a scroll.

You know you've had a good afternoon when your sketch is, while a wonky splatter of hot mess, also a total experimentation success. I dubbed it "Skunk Rocker at the Midnight Feather Disco 'n' Disarray". I'm eventually going to use some of my sketches as chapter breaks, but this one's for me.🦨🖤

Had the sort of small break staying with old friends that left me feeling deeply loved and valued, and in a way that I couldn’t squirm out from the truth of it. So if you’re the sort of person to struggle with that feeling, here’s to you: you are valued and loved. You just are. Live with it. 🩵

Many old phrases and sayings are confusing for people today. For example, you'll often hear people say, "Under the Circus Dances." As in, "Under the Circus Dances, I think you did the right thing." Or: "Everyone has to do their best Under the Circus Dances." Allow me to explain.

I've been sketching since just before the new year. This pic isn't finished. It's just the early swirls that graphite blocks allow me. It's giving my log-jammed brain somewhere to put the curliest, weirdest ideas and beasties. Now when I sit to write, there's a way for words to get out. Bliss.

celebrating a certain thing that's about to be out like, real soon (yes it's bhba)
a hand-drawn illustration of Vencario and Ilwyn, two right ne'er-do-wells, reclined shoulder to shoulder against each other with their arms crossed together. Vencario is a dark-haired fellow; his eyes are closed and he has an oddly sentimental smile; Ilwyn is a redhead in a blacksmith's apron and gloves.

When you realise you've named a cat in your story after one of your all time favourite cats in science fiction. (Not exactly the same, but mere letters away). But it takes you two weeks to realise this.

Every time I try and make a zine I spend most of my time trying to figure out how to fold and cut it, and where the sketches go, and where the story or message goes. Always good when you get to the message bit though, hey.
Many zines, including one that shows where the pieces will go, and another that shouts REJECT RACISM.

I need to make a zine. Maybe half a dozen. I don’t care what goes in it (yes I do) but maybe like a bunch of tiny ones with micro-fictions. And leave them who knows where. Maybe single line stories. ‘Her boot was a silent friend, keeping her toes warm and her body ready for action.’

If I just start opening my mouth wide will all of these unwritten words finally pour out of my brain and coalesce into something I can use? Or will I instead make giant behemoth sounds until my lower jaw disconnects and drifts slowly to the bottom of the deepest ocean? Who can say. Who can say.

I've been quiet here lately, but life is ... ya know. But lots of beautiful children's picture book stories are forming. I think writing 'em has caused some older stories to idle but many, many new ones to form. I sometimes think I should wear a bucket on my head. To stop ideas from flying in.
