I dislike Picard for many, many reasons. Not least of which is the endless fan service. But that fan service did also give us a better final actually last one promise final final send off.02 for the TNG crew, so it's... well not forgiven, that's still riddled with issues. But better than this.

I guess I didn't notice it whilst watching the film - my brain was tuned in to "action movie logic" and already knew that a speech wasn't going to work - that'd just deny us our kick-ass action sequence! That we have to have! But you're not wrong...

I guess they put a few other safety features in place after the whole Veridian III thing...

*nods* Star Trek V.

And did anything like this happen whilst Worf wasn't in charge of security on the ship..?

Although to be fair it *is* a very Romulan-sounding plan.

Tom Hardy was certainly the best thing to come out of this film. Eventually. Glad he finally made it back from the dive this took him in...

I mean, the fact that B4 exists I don't have a problem with - it's already been shown that Noonien Soong just kept making androids and then left them lying around. It fits. Story wise and performance wise though... it should've been Lore.

All of those would be better than what they did here. Their handling of Worf does annoy me, because he gets a perfect send off at the end of DS9, and it's a great end to the arc he's had since the start of TNG, and this... kind of pisses all over that. (Yes, I did say I appreciated this film.)

Also collapsing to his knees in just the same way that Jim did! His presence alone is mostly what pushes this into the top 50% of the TNG films for me. (I don't know how much I'm joking there...)

Right, time for the Nemesis fan to check in... Better keep waiting for them, then, because it's not- Well, I wouldn't say I'm a "fan", but I... appreciate this more than Insurrection and First Contact because it seems like it's trying harder. I wouldn't say it's "good", either, though...

Ah fantastic! Glad you made it up there, and the clouds parted for you - the view beyond the saddle is indeed incredible. And whilst I did indeed climb the entire thing (just past the saddle), starting at the lake (as one should), I *may* have used the cable car down. For time, of course.

Now to hope that not only is it good, but that it performs well, and that when it comes to making TLTWATW that they make use of the time slip to reimagine the Pevensies as refugees that have come to the UK. They won’t because they’re cowards. But you know…

Yeah, I’m here for this. There’s enough “serious” high fantasy out there (which I like) but that is not the vibe for Narnia. This looks very promising. youtu.be/gDJ-ini7fF0?...

it would be so much better strategically for GCs to either ignore or support these kinds of protest but they just can’t help themselves

Well at least, even if that weren't to happen, they wouldn't do anything as daft as to kill it off off-screen before its next possible on-screen appearance.

By the power of Earl Greyskull, I will have the power to finally claw my way here, after a morning of frantically trying to get everything done so that I can take the afternoon off! *holds his breath and plunges back in*

Although in actuality it should’ve been flying off without nacelles, because they’re what generate the Subspace field, not the warp core - that’s just the power source! But then it would have looked silly… But yes, the Enterprise heroically put-put-putting into the sunset about sums this one up.

I mean simple functional backup controls to use as a last resort do make sense… But not when they look like that.

Yeah, that’s one of the bits that really annoys me - how many times have we watched Data learn what it is to be human by this point? I’m with Spiner on this one.

… Yes. It has a few fun moments (I like the opening scenes, G&S, and all that), but they unfortunately just show up how bad the bad parts really are.

Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Yeah, that’s the one thing that they miss out every time they decide that they want to do TWoK again, and think it just means nasty baddy and big space battles. Just as well there’s not another attempt to do it again on the horizon for you or anything…

I mean in some ways this slots in very nicely with some of the messaging from early ToS, so you know…

Yep. “We don’t believe in technology,” they say, as they use an irrigation system to water the fields they’ve filled with farm tools.

And also after the introduction of the most set-looking set that ever was set. The production team were thrilled with doing the largest outdoor set ever for a Trek film… but sadly it does just look like a set. I know the Baku keep things clean and tidy, but… no. It’s not a village, it’s a set.

"Do you think anyone'll notice that we've just done the poster for VI again?" "Sshh! Anyway, at least it's not that same picture of Picard again just shuffled around slightly." "Fair."

By the power of Earl Greyskull, I will have the power to delay a visit by the Paw Patrol this morning by allowing the Scraplet to work through the back catalogue of Road Runner cartoons. This is absolutely not having any impact on my productivity.

I guess the Enterprise crew went back in time *again* and snuck onto the Vulcan ship to fiddle with their sensors. Or something.

I do like the sound design for when Picard finally breaks the spinal cord - it’s very cold and hollow, fittingly.

Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
It just doesn’t look as impressive compared to the multi-level Galaxy class bridge. And giving it a small view screen just so they can return to that “submarine in space” aesthetic of the ToS movies really doesn’t help - it just feels smaller and lesser.
010
Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
And as much of a Generations fan as I may be, at least with this one they don’t have to kill off beloved family members for no reason other than to give him some emotional turmoil…

Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
What I can’t look past is them forgetting how the Borg work. “They won’t attack us if they don’t see us as a threat.” Dude, that was when you were less than insects inside their massive cube; here they’re the invading force, they’re always under threat until they have dominance! Gah.

Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
I wouldn’t say I was a “fan”. But with only four films there’s a very short distance from best to worst…
020
Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
And especially when you compare Insurrection to Generations, which also had a outdoor scenes in rolling hills and countryside, the former just feels much less expansive and epic somehow...

I may have said that this is not a favourite of mine, but I will absolutely give him that much, for sure.

Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
Yeah, but you can explain that by him being kept youthful by this energy cloud lover. Probably.
010
Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
That is a nice shot, I'll grant you that. Would've been nicer if it'd been the D doing the saving. (No, not letting go. Ever.)
010
Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
(Although there are plenty of fan texts justifying the change in design aesthetic from Galaxy class to Sovereign, reflecting the change in mood at Starfleet given the Borg, Dominion war, etc... Which at least makes the differences interesting. Long after the event...)
010
Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
I don't either, but that's mostly because they got rid of my beloved D for... that. That's a good reveal, and that's not a bad looking ship... from that angle. But it's the underside of the saucer where it falls apart, with all the harsh cuts and angles. Feels like a step backwards.

Llama God @thellamagod.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Like the constant Northern star (or something), here I am (eventually) to stick in my two strips of gold-pressed latinum to say this is my second least favourite of the TNG films (though there's only 4, so...). It's not that it's bad - there's some fun bits! - it's just... too safe and obvious.

the fundamental thing wrong with this ai-driven "hyper personalization" pipe dream is that your preferences are constantly changing, primarily in response to experiencing things that are different from your current preferences and expectations, through this little-known process called Living.
