fall festival vibes 🍂🍎🎃🌽 #reylofic
She’d barely looked his way all afternoon. Granted, he hadn’t really been trying to get Rey’s attention; he’d more so just wished for her to interact with him on the off chance that if he thought it at her hard enough she’d pick up on it like a radio frequency. In a shocking turn of events, that didn’t work.

It’s not like he could blame her. They were at a Fall Festival with all kinds of activities and food to distract the senses, with a group of their friends in tow. All of whom, by the way, were a hundred times more outgoing and extroverted than Ben ever could be. Of course Rey’s attention would be focused on anything other than the quiet, oversized shadow at the rear of the group.

When Finn had set up the group chat to plan this little outing, Ben’s first instinct had been to silence it or leave it. But then he saw the message “Rey Niima has been added to the chat” and scrapped that plan. When she confirmed her happy attendance, his stomach dropped and did some flips, a sickening sensation which Ben imagined to look like a dead fish just flopping around on land. That’s what this girl did to him. Deprived him of oxygen, bravery, and most of his good sense (which was low in stock as a general rule).

So, Ben spent much of the day glancing at her when he could manage it, catching the sound of her laughter over hundreds of voices, and pretending like none of it mattered to him even a little.

Later, when the moon was fat and yellow in the darkening sky and the string lights twinkled above their heads, they all sat on picnic benches next to the mini doughnut truck and waited for the haunted corn maze to start. Ben nursed a cup of steaming apple cider and surreptitiously licked the cinnamon sugar off his lips. It was all fine, until she plopped down on the bench next to him.

“Hey, Solo!” she said with a smile that held his eyes captive. “Feels like I haven’t talked to you all day.”

Because you haven’t. “It’s been busy.” “Yeah. Excited for the maze, though,” she supplied.

“You gonna scream like you did last year? Or punch one of the actors square in the jaw like the year before that?”

“For your information, I haven’t decided yet.”

“Mm. Surprise me.”

“Are you planning to finish those?” she asked and pointed at his paper bag half-full of the melt-in-your-mouth sugary doughnuts.

“I was thinking about it.”

“Cool.” She stuck her greedy little fingers in the bag and plucked out a doughnut then tossed it straight in her mouth.

Ben couldn’t even be outraged. He just smiled as her eyes fluttered closed and she groaned in her throat.

“Oh my god. I wonder if the doughnut guy would take me home with him?”

Ben scoffed. “I think he’s some Boomer with gout. Do you still stand by that?”

“Damn. I was picturing someone else shaking this magical dust onto steaming, fresh from the oil bites of heaven.” Rey sighed. “My imagination always gets the best of me.”

“Who were you picturing?” Ben asked, entirely out of curiosity and not to torture himself with the no doubt unsatisfying answer.

Rey’s eyes glimmered as she looked at him and the corners of her lips—sparkling with sugar crystals—curled upward in a mischievous sort of way.“Well,” she began, drawing the word out, “I was thinking of someone like—”

“Oh, it’s starting! C’mon, we’ve gotta get in line.”

Ben desperately wanted Rey to finish that thought. Leave it to Poe and his group leader mentality to ruin what could have been an interesting moment.

“Let’s go,” Rey said. She tossed another doughnut in her mouth before grabbing his hand and tugging.

He tried to ignore the way that made him feel but found he couldn’t when they were standing in line and she was still holding on.

His mouth was dry, but he said, quietly, “Rey…?”

There was that smile again and those eyes that always seemed to say more than her voice did, even if he could never quite comprehend it.

“Don’t let go, okay? If you do, I might punch somebody again.”

He smiled shyly and squeezed her hand just a little. “Are you scared or something?”

“Yeah, but you’re not. Right?”

“You have no idea.”

Photograph of a brunette woman wearing overalls and a white tank top, bent over a car engine, repairing it with tools"You'll need a half inch socket wrench to undo the two bolts
along the side that secure it to the engine."
Kylo has no idea how he ended up here, but now he can't
look awav.
He had clicked on a random YouTube video, letting them
autoplay for no other reason than to break the cold 3 a.m.
silence of his penthouse.
At first he'd paid them no mind, alternating answering inane
emails with sips of perfectly aged whiskey.
Then - "Hi, I'm Rey, and today I'm going to show you how to take the alternator out of your scumbag ex's car."
The lilting, accented voice draws his attention to the television like a magnet.
The sight of her elfin face, cheeks smudged with oil, smile bright, strikes him in the chest like an arrow.
He watches, utterly rapt, as she breaks down the process
into easy to follow steps, accompanied by witty commentary.
"And there we go," she holds up the round hunk of metal with a triumphant smile. "The jagoff won't be going
anywhere without this."The girl is equal parts effervescent and wrathful and Kylo is more than half in love by the time she ends the video with
"Stay petty ladies," and a wink at the camera.
He clicks on her handle, MissRey OfSunshine, and sets her entire library to autoplay.
Over and over and over agin the little spitfire provides increasingly devious ways to fuck with cars.
She is magnificent.
There is something about her that settles the restless beast
in his chest. Her voice becomes the sound he falls asleep to
every night.
Weeks later, while standing in line for coffee, when he hears that beloved voice chirp, "Hi, Rosie," it vibrates in his bones.

Film still from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Two black and white images stacked vertically. The top shows a close up of Kylo Ren’s eyes looking down at Rey. The bottom shows a close up of Rey’s eyes looking up at him"Please," she whispers, the tears in her eyes reflecting the starlight coming in through the command bay windows.
Even without the bond, fear and desperation are written all over her.
"It's alright, sweetheart, I'll give you what you need," he murmurs softly, tenderly. "Once you give me what I want."
She engulfs him in the fire of her anger that he so adores.
"And just what is it that you want?" she grits, tiny fists balled up at her sides. Kylo half hopes she takes a swing at him. She's never more beautiful than when she's committing an act of violence.
"Don't play coy, Rey," he gives her a pitying look. "You. I want you, here, at my side where you belong.'
"I will never join the First Order " his little loth-cat hisses.
"Then you won't get the bacta tank you need so badly."
"Finn will die without it!" she storms closer, presumably trying to physically intimidate him. Absolutely precious.
He shrugs, unconcerned. "Probably. But you can save him, if only you agree to my terms."
"You're a monster."
«Yes, he agrees, cupping her cheek in a black gloved hand. "And there is nothing in this galaxy more ruthless than a monster in love."
Kylo feels as much as sees her break and it is all he can do not howl his triumph to the stars

a cropped still from the movie "the driver" with isabelle adjani

black & white image of a poker table and a woman from the nose down to the elbow. she is wearing a button up shirt under a dark sweater and holds a poker hand in her hands. The back rooms of the nondescript pub off 7th Avenue are smoky, the kind of smoky that comes with years of illicit gambling and players that abide by a very limited set of rules. Baked into the felt under Ben’s fingertips and the ancient wainscoting lining the walls, and smokier than the bar he usually frequents twenty or so blocks downtown. This pub comes stocked with a distinctly shaggier clientele—the uncle sitting at his right elbow firmly included among that motley crew.

All in all, not the kind of environment that’s suited for someone who’d thrown out a half-empty carton of Marlboro Reds on Tuesday, his promise to Leia they’d be his last still lingering in the air.

They killed Han, Ben. Don’t let them kill you, too.

Well. He’s trying, isn’t he? Even if the lack of nicotine has his hands jittering and his brain half-empty at a table filled with sharks as bloodthirsty as Ben has ever seen: his uncle Lando and Orson Krennic and that fucking weasel Hux ready to pounce at any sign of a slip-up.

Maybe it’s the girl who has his hands shaking. The one who looks like a cinnamon roll. Who called herself nobody when pressed for introductions at the start of the game. Five foot something and all of it freckles and dimples and twinkle.

Ben is allergic to twinkle. Always has been.

His jaw clenches, as it does whenever he so much as thinks about his uncle. "Goodbye, mom, I'lI talk to you next week."
There's a brief flash of guilt for being so abrupt, but he knows that this newly forged truce between them is simply

missed connection #reylofic
Another day, another unmotivated search for a dinner recipe she may or may not actually make.

Rey sighed at her laptop screen. Everything sounded so unappealing lately. It wasn’t due to a lack of appetite on her part—the girl loved to eat and to eat well. It was just her poor mood, mostly.

It started last week when she left work only to find that someone had backed into her car, leaving a sizable dent in her bumper before taking off.

After she went to report a hit and run, she went to everyone’s favourite place to be on a Monday evening: the grocery store. It was there that she’d met the most impossibly gorgeous man she’d ever seen and he’d willingly talked to her. Granted, they’d talked about the best vegetables to add to a stir fry, but it was still the most electrifying conversation she’d had in months.

And then they’d parted without her having gotten his name or his number, and she had been stewing in the misery of that decision ever since.

He could’ve been her soulmate. Seriously. She felt it when they’d locked eyes—a strange little jolt at the back of her mind that caused her heart to skip. She’d never felt it before. Logic said it was significant.

But, alas. Despite going back to that grocery store a little more frequently, she hadn’t seen him since. So, there she sat, alone, scrolling through paragraph after paragraph of a stranger’s life story just to find out how they cooked salmon with dill sauce.

She came across a recipe for honey garlic stir fry posted a few days ago and laughed sadly to herself before clicking on it. Like every other recipe page, the author had written a novel beforehand and, worse than that, there was no “jump to recipe” button. Her eyes skimmed the lengthy text and caught a few words as she rapidly scrolled.

Grocery store. Missed connection. Baby corn. She paused. Stared. Scrolled back up. Read:

“I guess I’m sharing this one for a reason. It’s kind of a strange reason, even for me, but here goes.

“I was at the grocery store last Monday, around 6:30. I needed some things for some appetizers I was going to make that Friday. I ran into this beautiful woman in the produce section—I’m talking the definition of perfection. She had eyes that actually sparkled. Apparently that’s not just something you read about in novels. I felt like a creep because I couldn’t stop staring at her. Her smile made me smile, which is a weird thing for me to say. But it’s true.

“I guess you could say it was a missed connection, though, because I was a massive dumbass and I didn’t even get her name. The problem is, I haven’t stopped thinking about her since. I’ve even gone back to the store every day this week but I haven’t seen her. The employees are starting to look at me weird.

“Anyway, if by some miracle she’s reading this…hi. We talked about the best additions to stir fry. We bantered about broccoli; I said my top pick was baby corn, to which you responded with ‘obviously.’

“Here’s my favourite way to cook it, if you want to give it a try. Or, if you want me to cook it for you sometime…my name’s Ben. You can contact me through this website. Tell me what your second pick was, so I know it’s you.”

Holy shit, this monologue is about me?!
Yes, yes it was. She stared in shock at her screen for far longer than necessary, then she started typing.

“Hi, Ben. My name’s Rey. This recipe looks great—I think some shiitake mushrooms could really take it up a notch, though. What do you think?”

She turns from the front door and moves deeper into the foyer, calling, "Poe, one of your loser friends is here."

Cover of ‘The Complete Book Magic and Witchcraft’ by Kathryn Paulsen. The cover is bright red, with white-edged black gothic text, and the illustration of a winged demon in the centre
She finds it when she's putting clothes away in his dresser.
It's buried at the bottom of a drawer, vibrant red cover just visible amidst
a pile of rolled up socks.
Her brow furrows in confusion as she reads the title, The Complete Book
of Magic and Witchcraft.
What in the world?
Flipping through the book, Leia notices a protein bar wrapper slotted
between two pages. Her eyebrows nearly reach her hairline as she scans
the words highlighted in yellow.
Charm to secure the love of a woman
Huh.
Leia has a sneaking suspicion that this might have something to do with
the "Nima girl" competing with Benji for valedictorian. Her name has
graced the air a lot in their house the last few months.
Apparently he doesn't find her nearly as irritating as he claims
From what Leia has seen of her, the girl is very bright, not to mention a
spitfire more than capable of putting her moody son in his place. Exactly
the kind a Solo man would fall for.You may fascinate a woman by giving her a piece of cheese. Put nine drops of
your fresh blood on a cloth in which you will steam the food of the one you
love.
Clapping a hand over her mouth, she stifles a laugh. Suddenly the reason
for the trip to the gourmet cheese shop where her son spent over an hour
carefully studying the offerings in the display cases before selecting a
forty-two dollar a pound Comté becomes clear.
Oh, her poor boy has it so bad.
To win the love of a woman who does not want you thread a needle with her
hair, and run it through the fleshiest limb of dead man.
Oookay, so she's going to have to keep the lovesick idiot out of her sewing
supplies.
Snapping the book closed, she tucks the book back under the mound of
socks and closes the drawer.
Picking up the laundry basket, she heads out of the room, already
making plans to invite the girl over for dinner in the near future
Watching Benji spend an entire meal absolutely discombobulating will
be the most fun she's had in a long time.
Besides, it's important she and Han make a good first impression with
their future daughter-in-law.

a minor problem #reylofic
Come to me. Now.

She felt his demand along their bond like the plucking of a string; it emitted a sharp noise in her mind and vibrated through her nervous system, a silent coercion to do as she was bid.

She had to clench her jaw, but she resisted.
I don’t want to see you right now, she growled.

Rey. Please.

Please.

He’d said that word to her only twice before. He was not typically one for begging or niceties. But she could hear the softness, the vulnerability, in his voice each time he said that word. It was the only time he sounded like that. Like a broken child who’d grown into a lost and hopeless man.

She couldn’t help but give in to the impulse. Her heart softened and her ire dulled just a little.

Why? she asked.

I need you.

Are you hurt?

Yes.

Dread clenched around her stomach and chilled the blood in her veins. She looked inside of herself at that glimmering gold thread that connected her soul to his—that thing she’d viewed as a curse for so long but had become a surprising blessing on more than one occasion. She still didn’t understand it. Part of her still wished she could break it, even knowing it’s not possible. Once enacted, a Force bond was irrevocable. Permanent. The word “soulmates” still felt strange in her mouth. It echoed around her head like a wailing phantom. But just this once, she leaned into that word. She let herself believe it and she grabbed hold of that thread.Pain struck her chest and side, sharp and agonizing—it hurt to move. It hurt to breathe.

Broken ribs. Several. She gasped.

Don’t, he ordered. Don’t make yourself feel it. Just…come here. Help me.

She released that mental thread like it was on fire, recoiling from it and the pain it wrought. A sense of panic bloomed deep within her at the realization that the pain was entirely his. He was alone and suffering. Why?

Where are you? she asked quietly.

You know where.

She sighed. You need to stop coming here, she lectured him even as she began hastily packing a bag of medical supplies. That cave is so damp, it’s going to add sickness on top of your broken bones.

You really that worried about me, Scavenger?

No. But if you get caught—

Relax. I’m very covert.

Oh? Then explain to me why your body’s broken.

…Ran into a minor problem. None of them lived to tell the tale, though, so we should be safe.

You killed people?! My people?

For you? Yes.

Kylo—

Can you save the lecture for later? She could hear his tension in her mind and knew the pain would be unbearable.

She threw the strap of her bag over her shoulder and opened her cabin window, clambering out with practiced ease. Her feet were silent as she escaped the Resistance base unseen and headed towards the forested peaks.

I’ll be there right away.

inspired by a childhood school memory that came back to me today 🤷‍♀️ #reylofic
When Kaydel had first asked if that was Ben Solo sitting by the bar, Rey thought she was just drunk and seeing things. She does that sometimes, as though one too many margaritas can cause her to see ghosts.

But then Rey turned to look and she was rendered speechless as a thousand confusing, occasionally ugly emotions welled up inside of her.

“Do you remember him from school?” Kaydel asked. “Wasn’t he captain of the hockey team?”

Oh, yes. Rey remembers him alright, but not for his athletic accomplishments. No, she remembers wanting to spite him throughout elementary and middle school for a very specific reason.

At the end of every month, the teacher would assign two people to take the chalk brushes to the cleaning machine down the hall. Rey and Ben were constantly forced together for this task after he joined her school in Grade 4. Rey loved cleaning the brushes, even though the dust always blew into her face and it stunk like hot chalk, it was satisfying in a childlike way.

But then Ben came along. And he swindled her out of getting to run the brushes through the cleaner every time. If she fought back, it was nothing for him to stop her. He even did it with a hand on her forehead once, like in the cartoons. Embarrassingly, it worked.

And just like that, a decades-old vendetta fuelled by rage reignited in her gut.

“That fun-stealing prick,” she mumbled and stood up.

“Rey? Where are you going? Get back here!”

But she was already tapping Ben on the shoulder. His eyes crawled over her with vague recognition. “Hello?”

“Hey. Remember me?”

“I—uh, I’m not…sure…”

“Commandeer any chalk brushes lately? Huh? Still stealing other people’s fun regularly?”

Ben stuttered, his eyes widened then narrowed, and he shook his head.

“I’m sorry…?”

“Yeah,” Rey scoffed. “Bet you are.”

Then she walked away because what the fuck was she doing. Her face felt red hot. She plopped back down in her seat with Kaydel and hunched over.

“Is he looking?” Rey asked.

“Uh, yeah, actually. Like, really intensely. What did you say? Did you threaten him?”

“No,” Rey grumbled. “Almost.”

“Rey—oh, my god. He’s coming over.”

“Shut up. No he’s not.”

“Yes, he is!”

Someone cleared their throat. Rey flinched. Fuck. One glance over her shoulder filled her with dread. He was so…intimidating looking down at her from his very high height.

“It’s Rey, right?” he said.

She swallowed. “Um. Yep.”

He smirked. “Right. Well, it seems like I’ve left a poor impression on you. If you’re cool with it, I’d love to rectify it sometime.”

He handed her a sleek, matte black business card with silver serif font. Rey took it and stared like an idiot.

“Just…call me sometime. I think we have lots to talk about.”

Film still of Adam Driver as Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Kylo is laying injured in the snow on Starkiller Base, looking up at an out of frame ReyKylo is painfully aware of falling in love with her.
He lay bleeding on the ground on Starkiller Base, gazing up at her, flushed and defiant, lit by his lightsabre and he knows the very second that it happens because it is so starkly opposed to the rage he has worn like a second, more comfortable skin since he was a teenager being exiled to Luke's academy.
This new... thing that takes up residence in his chest feels more like warm sunlight after a cold night than the molent lava he has grown so accustomed to. It is disorienting, to say the least.
He was not prepared for the way it makes him worry all of the time. Is she safe? Is she cold? Or too hot? Does she have
enough to eat? Exactly how close are she and that filthy traitor?
The thoughts of her never end, eating at him every moment of every day and eroding his sanity. She even follows him into his dreams. But by far the most frustrating aspect is the girl herself. She
made it clear she didn't feel the same way with how easily
she spurned him, and how quickly she abandoned him in that snowy forest, choosing the Resistance scum instead.
Despite that, all he had wanted was to crawl after her.
Pathetic.
Rage is useful, it serves as armour- a barrier between him
and the rest of the galaxy. His love for Rey, on the other
hand, does nothing but leave his soft underbelly exposed.
He much prefers the latter, he decides.
Also, if he doesn't see her again soon, he is going to die.

Hooking his arms over the cubicle's half wall, Poe huffs, muttering something in Spanish under his breath.
"I was wrong," the shorter man enunciates slowly, "about Rey."
Just her name gets his heart rate up. "What about her?" he asks, glancing at his most irritating friend (and only, but that's beside the point) from the corner of his eye.
"She's not dating Beaumont. Rosie said they didn't go to the farmer's market together, it was just a coincidence they bumped into each other."
"Not sure why you're telling me this," Ben resumes typing. Not words, just random letters, but it's enough to give the appearance of actual work.
Poe shrugs, grin knowing, "Just thought that bit of info might be of interest to you."
"Well it's not. What Nima does is none my concern, so if you don't mind, I have a lot of emails to answer."
"Of course, of course, you don't sigh like a lovesick schoolboy every time she walks in the room," before Ben can object, Poe abruptly switches topics. "Wanna try that new falafel place for lunch?"
Best to let it go. "Yeah, man, sounds good."
He waits until the sound of Poe's footsteps has faded before collapsing back in chair, exhaling a deep sigh.
Oh thank God.

and he thought about that moment forever #reylofic
girl with brown hair in a white sweater The urge is like an itch she can’t scratch, prickling until she can’t think of anything other than fixing the issue.

So, when she gets home from a night lecture to the apartment she shares with Kaydel, she does what she always does when she has nowhere else to be: she scratches that damn itch.

Relief washes over her the instant her bra falls away and she pulls it unceremoniously from beneath her sweater.

“Ugh,” she groans.

Seriously. That thing has been digging into her ribs all day. Yes, it makes her boobs look incredible, but it’s basically a torture device.

She walks down the short hallway into the tiny living room, carrying the padded monstrosity at her side. She doesn’t even think about it—until someone clears their throat. That’s when she freezes and stares in utter horror at Ben, Kaydel’s adopted brother. Ben, who Rey’s had a crush on since the age of thirteen.

He’s alone in the living room nursing a bottle of beer…and staring directly at her and the unmentionable in her hand.

“Ben,” Rey says. Her voice is a little too sharp.

He blinks. “Uh, hi. Um, Kay’s just…in the bathroom.”

“Okay. Cool.”

It’s at this moment she should run like hell for her room, but she just continues to stand there, half-melted to the floor, burning alive in the flames of her own mortification.

He clears his throat again and then—fucking hell—he gestures at her bra with his beer bottle. “Long day?”

She nods stiffly. Her face is far too hot for it to be healthy.

“Yep. No end in sight, either.”

Photograph of Daisy Ridley. She is standing in a off-white room with a black and white checker board floor, a curtained window behind her, her hands placed on wooden desk and upholstered chair. She is wearing a short black dress and black high heelsShe's just taken a sip of her precious mid-afternoon caramel
macchiato when a black clad figure strides past her desk without
looking up from his phone, two curled fingers the only sign he
wants her to follow him into his office. She does.
Closing the door behind them, she watches as he settles his
massive frame in a stupidly expensive leather chair. He pats the top of his mahogany desk. "Up."
Obediently, she totters over and perches on the edge, right in
front of him, feet dangling.
"Open," he orders.
Flush staining her cheeks, she leans back on her palms and spreads her legs wide. "Yes, sir."
"Good girl, her boss husks, long fingers lifting the hem of her black skirt that is just a little too short to be office appropriate.
He doesn't seem to mind, attention riveted on the red, abraded
skin of her inner thighs visible abover the lace edge of her stockings -the result of beard burn from the hours he spent with
his face buried in her cunt the night before.
"My poor little thing, he coos. "I was too rough with you"
Dark gaze locked with hers, Ben grips her knees and lowers his head. "Here, baby, I'lI kiss it all better."

oops my pen slipped... cw: omegaverse, my old friend #reylofic
It was a stupid dare and she should have said no, but Rey never backed down from a challenge and she wasn’t going to start now. They had her backed up against the lockers and Rey hoped the bell would ring and put her out of her misery but it didn’t. Bazine turned her fake-lashed eyes on Rey and smirked, with her perfectly lined lips oozing Omega confidence, Rey felt the familiar animal rear up inside her that would never take a leash, never obey a command.

“Never had a heat,” Bazine crooned. “Aren’t you a little old for that, Rey?”

Sure, technically, if you went by hormone charts and age averages and all the rest of it, yes, it should have happened by now, and the leaflets in the school nurse’s office weren’t overly reassuring, and perhaps there was, as Rey suspected, something deeply and irretrievably wrong with her, but she wouldn’t let Bazine make fun of her.

Rey was about to say something fucking awful that she would probably regret when Baz’s older tall friend with the long dark hair and the oversized leather jacket - Ben? - interrupted. He smelled of cigarettes and something Rey couldn’t place, and his black eyes were hazy and a little too intense which made Rey wonder if he wasted even though it was only 10 in the morning.

CW: violence & murder #reylo #reylofic #reyloprompts
Photograph with a downward view of a woman’s legs, dressed in white, a large black knife clutched in her handWhen the black clad men enter the chop shop, Rey knows
she is looking at her own death.
Because one of those men is Kylo Ren.
She's never seen him in person before, but everyone on this side of the city knows who runs things.
He is startlingly beautiful, her brain notes unhelpfully.
Everyone working on the cars go still and silent as Ren
casually circles the garage, pausing to inspect a half-demolished SUV while his Knights fan out around the
room.
"I hear you've been stealing money from me, Plutt,
skimming profits that don't belong to you." Ren states, voice soft and deadly.
Well fuck.
Plutt babbles out a desperate denial, but Rey knows it will
do him no good. There is only one way this encounter ends.
Inching backwards, her eyes cut back and forth between the massive figure of Kylo Ren and the door tucked into the
back wall. Ten feet. She can make it ten feet. She tunes out Unkar's pleading, focusing on trying to stay unnoticed. Maybe, if she's very lucky in all of the chaos that
is about to ensue she can slip out the back and get away. To
where she has no idea, but that is a problem for future, still
alive Rey.
Tunes him out that is until she hears, "You can have the girl."
It's shocking, how much the words hurt. Because not for a second did she think her foster father would lift so much as a finger to protect her. But it seems that in her traitorous heart of hearts, she still held out hope that he wouldn't actively throw her to the wolves.
"She'll work hard for you," Unkar assures the mob boss, flop sweat beading his brow. "And she's a virg -"
Rey just--she just snaps.
Snatching up a heavy pipe wrench off the nearest workbench, she charges recklessly at Unkar with a battle cry, abruptly uncaring of the danger of the situation.
She doesn't get more than a few steps before she's lifted off
the ground by a strong arms banding around her torso, pinning her arms at her sides

#Reylo It’s the sound, more than anything, that alerts her, the sound of the man at her side gurgling as he struggles for air. Later, Rey will be relieved the assassin was not a very good shot. As the former Supreme Leader falls to sprawl at her feet though, she isn’t able to think much at all.

Adam driver in a cubicle with papers hung on the wallsRey had an office up in editorial, while Ben—despite being a senior reporter who’d been with the Chandrila Chronicle for upwards of a decade now—was confined to a too-small cubicle whenever he wasn’t in the field. It wasn’t usually an issue that anyone walking by could see his screen, except when he wanted to play Tetris on his lunch breaks. And, apparently, when his editor decided to send him a message that made panic well up inside him.

Rey Niima [1:54 pm]: so about all your semis

Ben stared at the five-word, uncapitalized and unpunctuated sentence. When had Rey noticed—how long ago had she noticed—?

His frequent physical reaction to her presence wasn’t intentional, of course. He’d never had this problem before. But one glimpse of her ass in an atrociously tangerine-colored but beautifully tight pencil skirt, and his cock is eagerly perking up with zero regard for workplace professionalism. Or that time her blouse was just a tiny bit see-through and he couldn’t help but notice that her bra was pale blue, clinging temptingly to her perfect little breasts. Or when she gave him a teasing wink while handing back a draft bleeding with ruthless red-penned corrections.

1. It's not so much his rages that scare her. Not the broken furniture or 'fresher mirrors smashed. It's the quiet that comes afterward. It's the way he reprimands himself like he doesn't understand the man who was so consumed by anger. "I'm sorry," Ben says. "I don't know why I do it."

Up close photograph of the side of a man’s face, with the focus on his greying temple amidst black hairThe day she notices silver glinting among the raven strands of hair at his temples, her crush goes from bad to
catastrophic.
It seems like just a regular Tuesday, Mr. Solo pacing back and forth at the front of the classroom, large elegant hands moving through the air as he elucidates the central themes of Dracula.
That is, until she sees it, when dancing sunbeams break through the rolling cloud cover, briefly burnishing him in warm golden light. He tilts his face and like a magic trick silver appears amidst the black-there then gone again when he moves.
Fascinated, it becomes a game to her after that. Leaning as far forward as her desk allows, she watches him raptly, counting how many times she can spot the light interwoven in the dark
There aren't many of them yet, easy to miss by anyone who doesn't study him as closely as she does. She nearly drools onto her notebook imaging how Mr. Solo will look with fully silvered temples. Already the most beautiful man she has ever laid eyes on, he will be a stone cold silver fox, as Kaydel would say, once the grey really sets in. She sighs dreamily.

He looks so studious with his glasses on sitting behind his big desk reading his big book. No doubt he’s absorbing every word, too. Because of course he’s good at his job. His fancy job in a big library.

But despite the glasses and the book and the job, he doesn’t look like he belongs here. He’s built for the battlefield, not these narrow stacks with all their dusty books. Rey has told him this to his face on multiple occasions and he blows her off every time.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Oh, yes the hell she did. She knew a vicious predator when she saw one. So it is so damn disturbing to see this one lick his finger to turn the page of his big, dumb, stupid fucking—

Before she can even register her own movement, she’s grabbing the top of that dumb book and pushing it down onto the desk. He regards her with dark annoyance over the rims of his glasses.

“Quit hiding behind your books like they’re your shield, archivist,” she warns him with a smile. “You’d do better with a real one.” “Would I?” His voice is a deep, dark rasp that never fails to greet her body like warm fingers trailing down her spine. She has to resist the urge to shiver every single time. “Can I use you as my shield?”

She sneers at him, even if the question he posed makes her want to squeeze her thighs together in an infuriatingly embarrassing way.

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” she grumbles. “Never having to do any fighting yourself, just relying on me to do it for you.”

“I mean, that is technically what our current occupations imply. Warrior. Archivist.”

“Don’t draw lines like we’re so different,” she warns. “You and I both know what you’re actually capable of.”

He grabs her wrist in a way that is neither gentle nor harsh and pries her hand off his book. He holds her like that for just a moment, his eyes locked on hers and the tips of her fingers poised so close to his lips she can feel the heat of his breath when he speaks.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you don’t know what you’re talking about. And you definitely have no idea what I am capable of.”

back, back again
The sounds of the convent had become soothing.

The trickle of water from the stone fountain at the center of the courtyard. The unrelenting buzz of cicadas as the sun went down. The shuffle of soft-shoed feet along the quadrangle as the sisters paced back and forth to Compline. The smells too, of rosemary, hyssop, thyme, and chamomile in the Mary garden.

When she’d first arrived, Rey had worried the stone walls and silent hours would be too quiet. How would she sleep? It was not what she was used to. There were no raised voices. No gun-shots. No men. No cigarette smoke. No aftershave. No hint of sweat from under a black suit. Not anymore.

Until the night in June when, returning to her small, cloistered cell, Rey found she was not alone.

A strange sound, at once so familiar; the metallic click of a lighter, flicking open in the half-darkness. She had no weapons, nothing to reach for but the wooden rosary beads hanging from her belt. She had traded her weapons for the safety of staying hidden here. But her luck had run out.

“You need to leave,” she told the man-shaped shadow by the window. Even in the low-light she knew the curve of those shoulders. Could almost seem him smile, nonchalant as ever.

“No, sweetheart. You need to leave,” the man said. One long inhale and the tip of the cigarette glowed a deep red. Two fingers, gun-shaped, pointed right at her. “You don’t belong here.”

“Yes, I do.”
She was safe at the convent. Protected in a way she never was in the city, when she was nothing but a pretty piece of meat hung on an old gangster’s arm, all jeweled fingers and slapped cheeks.

“He wants you back,” Kylo Ren tells her.

Snoke’s notorious fixer. A looming presence in a dark suit, the curve of a holster always under his jacket. Never disarmed, even after a few drinks, in his shirt sleeves and playing cards with his boss. She knew. She was the one who cleaned up. But not anymore.

“This is my home now.”

He chuckled, low and mean. “What do you think the nuns would say, if they knew what you were before you came here?”

She pressed her eyes firmly closed. Clutched her rosary until the beads hurt her hands. She wanted to believe he was wrong, that her previous life didn’t matter. That all sins were washed away in the holy water, all trespasses forgiven in the taking of holy orders.

“I know what you really are, little lamb.”

….

The other gangsters nicknamed him il padre Ren. Father Ren. “The priest”. A joke, maybe, but one with too much truth in it.

Most of Snoke’s men paid little heed to religion. But Kylo Ren wore a gold cross on a thin chain around his neck and kept his hands clean. The rumor was that he whispered a prayer to the Virgin before pulling the trigger. He was a regular at mass, standing a head taller than anyone else as he lined up for communion.
Rey had often wondered what his visits to the confessional were like, and whether the priests could sleep after hearing it. In a world of sin, he walked like a saint. Untroubled. How did it feel, to carry all your mortal crimes so weightlessly?

All Rey had done was been unlucky. A barely-legal streetwalker who flagged down the wrong expensive car on the wrong night.

“Rescued,” was what Snoke called it. (“Look at the treasure I found in the streets. Look at the home I gave her. Look how she hates me for it.”)

Kylo Ren, face impassive as a statue as she perched on Snoke’s knee and imagined different ways to kill him. She would never forget it.

Il padre, sent to collect a lost member of the flock.

He was staying in the town’s only guesthouse. White-washed and blue shuttered, with a view of the ocean. From its walled garden, bougainvillea and jasmine spilled onto the street.

Rey stood outside in the evening shadows. What would the kindly old widow who owned it think, if she knew about the monster inside? Some sins were unforgivable, the priests said. Kylo Ren had seen her suffering and allowed it to continue. Now he thought he could retrieve her like a lost dog.

I know what you really are, little lamb.

That was the thing about Rey. She might wear the habit and kneel in the chapel. She might mouth the liturgy and pray the rosary. But she didn’t have faith. Not in Snoke. Not in Kylo Ren. Not in any man.

And especially not in God.

“I know what you really are, padre,” Rey whispered to herself. “A dead man.”
