That’s just science.

In the mists of history, when I drove school bus I had a morning layover near a pond in a north St. Paul suburb. In early autumn mornings mist would shroud the lake. Canada geese would come out of the mist landing like Viking nuns and wood ducks followed like foreign princelings in their finery.

I am frequently baffled by folks that have parked halfway down my block but do a three-point (or greater) turn to drive back the other way instead of just going around the block. Seems to be more common among younger drivers.

Wild caught are the huge deal. These farm-raised scallops are just the normal-sized deal. Obviously people scooped up the huge deal first.

Very normal, Trick. Not weird or creepy. No one is keeping out of arm’s reach.

Possible, I suppose. IANAL so no idea if there is benefit in the redundancy of saying “you have these rights” and “these rights will not be denied.”

(The … in the original post would be “of the United States or any State”.)

My thinking being making it a positive assignment of rights instead of a reactive “shall not be denied.” And then making it by gender instead of sex to be more inclusive. No idea if this is a good idea or if there are things that would trip up because of this kind of wording.

Woke up at 3am ruminating about updating the language of the Equal Rights Amendment. Current: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the [US] or by any State on account of sex.” Or: “Rights provided by laws … shall apply equally to all persons regardless of gender.”

Oh yes. He was quite pleased with the new toys and would bring to us in bed while still alive. 😺

We replaced all the knobs in our house with lever styles. The eldest cat swiftly learned how to open these, which wasn’t a big deal except he used it to get into the garage and didn’t close it behind him. Which is how the mice found their way in. That door stays locked now.

If it’s going to be a nicely breezy 70 degrees fondly Fahrenheit, I’m having my coffee under the pergola.

My latest @newscientist.com cartoon
Panel 1: a large robot (composed of AI servers, network switches, storage arrays, and power distribution units) and a human are talking.

Professor "You don't want to destroy humanity do you, lLLM-A-9300x?"

Robot "Haha. What a silly question, Professor. I have no desires or feelings of my own whatsoever."

Professor (relieved)"Oh good."

Panel 2: they walk on. The robot continues "I am merely a tool of the company that created me. And that company, being composed of humans, will naturally have humanity's best interests at heart."

Panel 3: The professor is conspicuously quiet.
"Right?" says the Robot.
…
More silence

"Professor?"

I came to Mpls in 1985 after spending the prior 5 years in far northern rural MN. At my first Minicon Victor asked what I thought of it. I remarked that it seemed he knew an awful lot of gay people. (Which caused David Cummer to collapse in giggles.)

Just had what appeared to be an orange-crowned warbler (so called due to being pale yellow all over without a hint of orange, bird names are dumb) fly into the Virgin’s Bower of the pergola and hop about over my head for a short bit.

Gorgeous morning for coffee under the pergola. The local gang of robins have taken possession of the birdbath, but there are the typical sparrows and some migrating warblers flitting and chirping about.
