I like seeing data like this out here. I have spent a lot of time telling residents that these cultures are rarely helpful and we have no trouble isolating Candida with standard sets. We even had a case recently where the Candida only grew in standard cultures and not in dedicated fungal cultures.

I hope one of the biggest takeaways from the World Cup is that live soccer is awesome and progression of the game in the US requires lots of opportunities for young players to play and develop. New USL and MLS fans are way more valuable for the American game than new EPL ones.

Did the IDSA Staph aureus bacteremia guidelines get clawed back? I was looking at them yesterday and now they are gone.

USA soak in Seattle’s familiar support en route to making World Cup history
Long a hotbed of American soccer, Seattle showed on Friday why it should no longer be a rare visit for the national team

Interesting to see further work on Ct values in CDI and glad that my previous findings still generally hold, but this just adds to my general sense that we don’t know where the line is between CDI and colonization and perhaps never will.

I have no interest in being the gatekeeper of this, but providers should not be able to order a multiplex PCR panel unless they have some semblance of how to interpret the results.

From @drrossanarosa.bsky.social et al: Using in-house PCR for C auris screen, we observed ⬆️ rates of new colonization POA but have maintained stable rates of C. auris hospital-onset BSI. This suggests rapid ID and isolation can mitigate horizontal transmission of C. auris. doi.org/10.1017/ash....

It was a pleasure to work on this project with our ID pharmacist colleagues. AI has a lot of potential in this space, especially with the basic interpretation of data, but still needs human guidance to work through the complexities of patient management. Looking forward to doing more of this!

There needs to be a better understanding that when it comes to patients who report STI exposures, providers need to treat first and any testing is just confirmatory. This is especially true if the patient has already been hard to contact and get in for clinic follow-up. #IDSky
