If the article is right that they're saving stuff because they need ad revenue next year to sell the thing, it's probably because basically every attempt at a reality show the last couple of years has died a VERY quick death so they have no other options to get it with.

And even the watermelon thing, the biggest reaction it got after "oh shit that looks painful" and "did she survive?" was "wait, that show is STILL on?!" Sort of insane it's managed to survive for basically multiple decades at this point on the back of a few good seasons in the mid-2000s.

I've genuinely heard more about CBS inexplicably sticking Amazing Race on three nights in a row last week ("25 years" ET filler special on Tuesday, first two actual episodes Wednesday and Thursday), and that show hasn't been relevant since the woman took a watermelon to the face *sixteen years ago*.

Wasn't feeling the premiere (seemed they didn't know how to make Vancouver exotic so looked at TAR Canada for inspiration without realising it has different needs as a show) but this leg was very solid. Crazy it's taken 39 seasons to get to either of the cities so far (and a couple still to come).

#16: Cubs & Campfires (Dylan Drakes, 2024) I tried. It's clearly good, but I couldn't get into it, and I don't know why. Maybe it's just chapters are so long I couldn't "just a few minutes" it and the gaps between spare time were so long it kept taking me out of the story? 6/10.

It's supposed to be a World of Pure Imagination, and instead they've given us the most tired, derivative reality show in years. It's almost like Eureka hasn't learned they need to do more to make good TV than to just buy the rights to an existing pop-culture property.
