When was the last time anyone updated these signs??
A weathered cluster of metal signs on a post at the Manzanita Park & Ride. The main information sign lists commuter parking rules and contact numbers, notably featuring obsolete seven-digit phone numbers without area codes for the Marin County Sheriff, Sausalito Taxi, Mill Valley Taxi, and the Marin Airporter terminal at Larkspur Landing. The phone number for Golden Gate Transit has been completely scraped off. Below the main sign are two severely faded, peeling, and graffiti-tagged warning signs about parking lot flooding.

Why are we still calling this man a "Christian nationalist" and not what he very obviously is by both his beliefs and his words which is a white supremacist? People remain confused about what Christian nationalism is, but white supremacy is not nearly as open to debate.

Not to be That Guy, but the principal reason we use flex posts rather than curbs is storm water management, which means adding or changing a curb is like an order of magnitude more expensive. The video is really about shit garbage truck procurement, and nobody asking sanitation about clear widths.

It's notable also because the UAE is firmly in the US alliance system, so that 1-2 orders of magnitude fewer leftists are screaming about the genocide in Darfur than about the Gaza war is not about Campism. I've seen more people here blame Israel for RSF (for being allied to the UAE) than the UAE.

Something I may never understand is the love of Putinism by European leftists. I *kind of* understand the love of leftist autocracies, but if you claim to be anti-racist and pro-LGBTQ+ rights, then Putinism (and Hamas, and the PRC) is the distillation of everything you claim to despise.

Using AI to generate more ideas of Marin County hearaldry, this time for San Anselmo. The red for Red Hill; the Y for its history as a junction; Sugarloaf (of course) or a book (for St. Anselm); the wavy lines for the creek; gold for Bald Hill; and a wreath of redwood and bay laurel or poppies.

A couple of ideas for a Marin County Coat of Arms. The tower is the Civic Center spire; the scalloping on the shield are intended to evoke the Civic Center's roof. The electric wheel is for both the Interurban and the mountain bike. The wreath is bay laurel. Art is AI; symbolism is mine.

I'm sure NPR is talking internally about how to frame Trump's bigoted remarks towards immigrants, and especially Somalis, but saying he refers to them as "bad people" or says "offensive things" is too much of a sugar coat. He calls them "garbage" "vermin" "leeches" etc. It's bigoted language.

To be clear, this is about $35 per capita (2025 PPP), which is not enough to do much in an American city right now. In San Rafael, that's around $2 million, not enough to build a bridge, much less a floating roundabout. But it's also totally doable!

Okay, I can't be the only one to have thought of the idea of "mode share of dollars" as a way to articulate the value of each mode accessing the core of a city, right? Like, rather than measure what % of people arrive by bus/car/etc., measure what % of sales revenue arrives that way.

If you don't try to draw a map of a bus network, decision-makers will never see how complicated it is. Our firm often draws an agency's first clear map. Its effect is sometimes to show that the service doesn't make sense, which starts the process of improving it. Apps are helpful but maps matter.

Some misinterpret this design as prioritizing cars while inconveniencing the bike. Incorrect. The setback allows one car to advance, waiting to enter the street, while keeping the bike path clear. A second car can wait behind the bike path, advancing only after the first car exits the waiting area.

How would the Netherlands fix U Street and Florida Avenue? By refusing to compromise safety. With just 45 feet curb-to-curb, it's clear the road can't hold a safe bikeway, a fast busway, and a busy highway. DDOT scraps the bikeway; the Dutch would ditch the highway.

Automated speed enforcement in a lot of states requires the 85th Percentile speeds to be at least 12 mph over the limit already. And a speed camera there is really annoying and punishing bc the road is yelling at you one speed and then you get punished for it bc the sign says something else.
