#SFFChat Surprisingly, NONE of those words were in Raw 😂 But I DID use the word "haunted" in The Witch of Eden Hollow, with poor Sterling confusing "I have feelings for the Witch of the Elder Grove" with "I must be bewitched."

*Why did I do it? Why?*

Theodore was left to ponder it, which was dangerous. Why did he kiss Elias? Why was he so impulsive? He could not understand it.

Infuriatingly, Theodore refused to stop thinking about it. It haunted him for more than a week. He thought about it while at Sabbath. He thought about it while travelling through town and working with the Millers. He thought about it late at night, in the dark, when the world would not judge him for being too self-indulgent.

Such a debilitating spell was placed upon him. It was disorganising his thoughts. This had to be a bewitchment. There was no other reason. But if that were true, then why did the witch push him away and reprimand him? Why did he claim that Theodore was the one tricking him?

Firm knocks upon a wooden door echoed across the town square. The silence that followed made Inquisitor Sterling’s blood boil.

“I know you are there.” His voice was firm, cutting. “Open the door.”

Another heavy rapping. Several officers were waiting behind him, and
the air grew charged as more silence passed.

“In the name of God, I demand you open this door.”

No response. She thought she could hide, but he was prepared for that.

Sterling jerked his head to the officers behind him. “Break it down,” he
muttered, stepping back.

Steering himself clear of the splintering wood, he brought his hand to the hilt of his sword. The cold iron brought him some comfort for what lay ahead.

Three hard crashes of the ram were all it took to bring the door down.
The officers cleared a path for Sterling to enter first. The pitch interior did not deter him as he stepped over the rubble.

“Madame Willow?” The mere name alone brought an acrid taste to
Sterling’s mouth as he began to withdraw his blade. “If you come out quietly, I will make it painless.”

He jerked his head to the officers again, a silent command to surround
the hut. There would be no escape.

“You have the wrong idea, Inquisitor.” A raspy voice in the darkness got his attention.

#⚔️🌿🌼 #AMA That actually was REALLY hard to answer 😭 My Absolute favorite is a spoiler, but the NEXT favorite is when Avery and his dad finally reconcile towards the end of the book. This part I've shared publicly. ❤️

Avery’s lower lip wobbled. “Father, I’m sorry.” He whimpered. “I-I’m so sorry.”

“No, Avery.” Father smiled. It was a rare, genuine one, bright and full of warmth. His eyes were soft, even as they shone. “You’ve done nothing wrong. You hear me?” He carefully wiped stray tears from his son’s face. “You have never brought me shame.”

Avery sniffled, trying to reach up but barely able to lift his arms. “Never?”

“Never.” Father pressed their brows together. “You are so much like me in every way. So much so that it frightened me, Avery. I know how hard, how terrifying it is, to fall in love in a way that Eden Hollow would never allow. I loved a man, as you did.”

Avery’s eyes widened. “…You did?”

“Aye. That’s what I’d been trying to tell you.” Father still held Avery’s face with a sad smile. “His name is Samson Briggs, a game hunter that would come to the forest from Alther Cross. I loved this man when I was your age. He loved me, too. I almost left Eden Hollow with him.” Father had more tears in his eyes. “You, Avery, did what I could not. You did what I was too afraid to. You stayed with Tristan. You didn’t care what others thought, even when you were scared. You showed him how much you love him. And words cannot describe how ardently proud of you I am.”

Avery looked up at the sky. He watched the breeze flow through the leaves. He breathed in the clean air, letting it out with a deep, blissful sigh. He began to wonder just what Tristan saw in him that he thought was beautiful. Was it his face? His hair? Did he like his smile? The more that he thought about it, the more that he remembered what his own reflection looked like in Elias’ looking glass. And he realised without any dread or shame that he like those things about himself, too.

Tucking some of his dishevelled hair back, he could not help a soft, watery smile. For the first time, he truly felt as beautiful as Tristan thought he was. Perhaps, more so. He liked his body. He liked seeing himself when he was caught up in pleasure. He liked his own voice, his own smile. He was radiant.

But why was he thinking about *love,* of all things?

Foolish. Utterly foolish.

*Come now.* Eadmund had better self-control than that. It was not going to fawn over one act of kindness.

Two, actually.

And if it went on to list the many more since the first, it would be endless. Such a good, kind soul had a hold on its heart, and he could very well squeeze it within his grasp.

Eadmund groaned, covered his eyes. What was *wrong* with him?

As it firmly rubbed its hand down its face, it glared up at the ceiling. These feelings were nothing. All rubbish. It was simply lonely. That was all. It was not going to be swayed.

But Oleander *did* have lovely eyes.

Eadmund’s breath caught in its throat. *No.* No, it could never be. *Remember? He fears you.*

Pitch: Isulf spends most of the year adventuring with his father, hunting monsters and learning the trade with brute diligence. But he enjoys attending Thornwood Valley's harvest festival, for they are the only times he gets to see the love of his life.

But Askel is hiding a monstrous appetite that plagues his every thought. His driving forces in life are his mother, Isulf, and a feral craving for blood and flesh. He will do anything to keep this hunger a secret, even if it means deceiving his lover.

Darin then squeezed his hand, tilted his chin up. “You are my King. My only duty in this life is to serve you, to keep you safe. And I will do that with my dying breath. I will walk through fire for you. I will freeze to death just to keep you warm. I will sacrifice everything if it meant that you would come out of this unharmed.”

Sebastian’s lower lip wobbled. “I don’t want you to do that.”

He frowned. “Why?”

“I just want you to be my friend.” Sebastian choked on a whimper. “I don’t want a guard. I want my *friend.* I almost died. I’d only worn my crown for an *hour,* Darin! And I have no one in this world to turn to. I fear that not even my bride will offer me comfort. I feel unsafe. I’m frightened. And I just feel so alone.”

Darin lowered his hands, which only made His Majesty burst into tears.

“I know,” he whimpered. “It’s a stupid request. Every idea I’ve ever come up with is stupid. I’d only been preparing for this for my entire life, only to be taken away from everything! There’s only moving forward, no time to breathe. I get it. I already know. I shan’t dwell on it anymore when I am supposed to be in control. I know that. I just thought—”

Darin cut him off by taking him into his arms. He pulled him into a hug, fierce but warm. And under him, Sebastian trembled and devolved further into sobs while clinging just as tight.

Darin rubbed his back, let him cry for as long as he needed. “That’s it,” he whispered. “Let it out. It’s all right, Bastian.”

His king shuddered and wept, unchanged. It made Darin’s hold gentler.

Synopsis on the left:
Worldly exposure was necessary for Eden Hollow’s compound, ensuring that followers both had a choice to stay but also had no reason to leave. It was time for Avery Miller’s six month sabbatical, and although he was more than sure of his devotion to his faith, he also knew that some people that left never came back.

When he decides to take his sabbatical in Southern Maine, he runs into a familiar face that he never thought he’d see again. Tristan Lowell defected and has no desire to return to the compound, and although Avery knows he shouldn’t be speaking to him, he missed his dearest friend far too much to follow the rules.

As old, buried feelings that he refuses to name reignite and he finds himself drawn to breaking his tenets for worldly delights, can Avery confidently return to the compound as planned? Or will he decide that a blissful romance is a future more worth coveting?

#WIPSnips | Well From my “old beast yaoi” batb retelling 🌹 Pascal finds a greenhouse while trying to search for his host, only to try and take one of the roses. It doesn’t go well.

The next morning, he tried finding his host again. The storm had stopped, and he still needed to return home. He looked outside. No one. He explore the halls. Deserted. It was dark.

His wanderings led him to a surprisingly well kept greenhouse. It was so warm that he had to open his shirt collar. The flowers within were beautiful, decorating every inch. The iron holding the glass in place was sturdy. He hadn’t seen a place so beautiful in all his life. He almost didn’t want to leave.

He saw lovely rose bushes. They reminded him of Celine. She loved beautiful things. At one time, he even planted a garden for her. Perhaps he could take just one. He could offer it to her shrine upon returning home.

But as he reached out and plucked it, suddenly the calm air grew cold and oppressive. It was in an instant. Such a supernatural force made him whip around.

“Thief!” A deep voice bellowed.

Pascal nearly fell back. Towering over him was a monster.

He would have wanted this. He would have wanted life to move forward, to grow. He would have wanted to keep seeing the leaves change from blossoms to greenery to golden to bare, just for time to bring back the blossoms soon after. Life was cruel, yes, but Elias did not have to let that bind him.

He could still live while his son could not. He did not have to wither in defeat.

A smile passed on Elias’ lips. He took in the fresh air, his laughter light. And it grew. His joy filled him, refreshing him faster than the deepest drafts of water. Life could be beautiful again. He could *live.* It was not too late to have hope.

Elias dropped to his knees, his laughter devolving to sobs.
