Long Covid clinic in my city, no (maybe 1 surgical) mask... oh, and they "aren't covid specialists & can't treat LC". Tell me you're in it for the grant money without telling me you're in it for the grant money. It was a trial, but that wasn't made clear ahead of time, bc its called a... LC clinic 🙃

This story is exactly why the infection control establishment cannot afford to learn - if they update guidance to correct their errors, they are admitting responsibility for these deaths. So they panicked, buried their heads in the sand, and are trying to wait it out - while the bodies pile up.

Usually, when a disease is “endemic” countries have long standing plans to battle them. Targets, including zero targets. Now, we use the word to pretend we can ignore something. Yet another way COVID-19 is an exceptional disease.

And it's basically guaranteed that if we don't rest we'll also end up wrecked. Entirely unfair. But don't cry or stress about it bc that'll make the wreckage worse 🙃

It's important dialogue bc some use CWs to simply look the other way, but others can be stricken by violent flashbacks or intrusive harm OCD, etc. Many ppl with mental illnesses want to bear witness but need to choose the timing in a safer way or just don't need to see it to be moved to action. He is alright. A friend in his B.C. riding said he was silent on their union issues (that would be up his lane), & also housing & it turned out hes related to a housing minister that would've been challenged if he spoke up. To be fair, they feel he might be more suited to make change out of B.C.

For any adults reading, know that there is no age cut off for this HPV vax AND anyone presumed male at birth can also get it to help stop the spread. The age limit is just assuming you are monogamously married to a faithful partner at that point & not going to have further/new risks. I'm so angry.

Solidarity ❤️ sometimes I like to imagine that all of us horizontal folks share bedroom walls with one another. I'm putting my hand on my wall & the strength im sending through it doesn't have far to go 🙌 And yes, it's really hard doing this solo & sucks big time.

Also, I think some communities could get there by practicing giving & receiving support. Maybe starting with small, low stakes asks might be a place to start, in order to build some trust in there actually being a collective. Many worry they might be the lone volunteer & become the sole go-to.

I recently put out a vulnerable ask for the 1st time in a local online community & ppl expressed ADMIRATION. Ppl crave this permission. Of course, not all ppl & those who judge, including gov'ts, ruin it for us. Leading by example is necessary, and hard ❤️

You can become disabled in an instant. People think those of us who are sick did “something” to deserve it. We didn’t. The just world fallacy is a lie. It just takes one illness, accident or stroke of bad luck to forever change your life. Disability is not a moral failing.

I've found some informed specialists via the patient community (we're the best). Still learning to walk away from harmful drs. It sucks that you need to stay w your GP for the off-label scripts. It's like a puzzle of where can I get what I need & how do I manage the harm. It shouldn't be like this ❤️

Most ppl are not comfortable with the guilt or shame that might surface if they did admit to mistakes. We, particularly white folks, need to learn how to be uncomfy. Not likely to happen until circumstances like disabling LC force it directly on them.

We know how to slow the spread of C-19: respirator masks, clean indoor air, testing, staying home if sick. Make prevention methods accessible for all. Long Covid recently surpassed asthma as the most common chronic illness in children. Recent deep dives are necessary to be speaking from authority.

Yep. It's highly stigmatized & there's a (valid) fear of being ostracized. As I've learned, ppl don't like being reminded of covid, masking or lockdown days... and if they see symptom burden from those living with LC, its shameful to look away from another's suffering, so they try not to see it.

We could end homelessness and hunger tomorrow if we wanted to. We could agree that everyone should be fed and housed. We could admit that being disabled, poor, homeless or unemployed is not a moral failing. That society would be better off if everyone’s basic needs were met.

A long covid clinic in my city has drs who don't mask with LC patients... and they also "aren't covid specialists & can't treat LC". They only do research (which they don't advertise, hoping to bring more patients through). I think for many researchers the grants are what they care about.

You get used to it? My 1st time back on the ice a few years after ending my skating days, I had the gentlest fall ever & was in pain for a long time 😅 i once hit the boards mid-air while rotating, took a minute to make sure I wasn't injured, then tried the jump again! No idea how our bodies do that.
