The real question is how this Permitting Reform bill expands global emissions. Most of the fossil infrastructure that will get built without review will be used for methane-gas exports. Advocates’ claim that US emissions will go down is like the three card monte of the campaign for this bill.

Five-alarm fire: Radical Senate ‘permitting reform’ bill threatens to eviscerate environmental, wildlife, water, climate laws - Western Environmental Law Center

The Green NGO movement is not a monolith. But my informed sense is that most folks are alarmed by the permitting deal. So let me say this respectfully, gently, but firmly to my beloved comrades: political access is not political power.
Josh Siegel: "I later called another speaker on the call, Erik Schlenker-Goodrich, executive director of the Western Environmental Law Center, who explained the divide among greens this way: 'The elephant in the room is Sens. Heinrich and Whitehouse are perceived to be champions of environmental issues, and a lot of the large environmental groups are reluctant to push back for well-intentioned reasons to maintain relationships with them."

On my recent pelagic trip, we got an extra surprise as a pod of Orcas cruised past the boat! They were moving fast, so this is the only decent shot I got, but it was so exciting! #Nature #Photography #Birds #Seabirds #Whales
A few seabirds flying over the open ocean, above the dorsal fin of an Orca as it crashes back into the water; the bird at the top is entirely dark brown, a Black-footed Albatross. Lower in the frame are Pink-footed Shearwater, dark brown birds with white bellies; and Sooty Shearwater, smaller, entirely brown birds.

Well, I think Rob's #BirdoftheDay theme of #Borbs is calling out for a Spotted Towhee, one of the borb-est of all borbs. #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding
A bird perches on an apple twig; it has a black head and back, with some white stripes on the back. Its sides are orange, and it has an intense red eye. It is all fluffed up, making it not a bird, but a borb!

This is legitimately astounding news. I've never worked with Atlantic cod, but everyone even tangentially related to fisheries knows this story, and I think a lot of us ( myself included) weren't sure it would ever rebound in a meaningful way. Certainly gives hope to other stocks in trouble.

Any day spent foraging in the woods with @sirisharmony.bsky.social is a good day, but it's an even better day when you come home with several pounds of lobster mushrooms! Many for eating, and a couple pounds that will be used for natural dying. See alt text for lobster mushrooms facts! #Mushrooms
A trio of baskets filled with orange mushrooms in the back of a pickup truck. Interestingly, lobster mushrooms are not actually a separate species of fungus; rather, they're any of a number of mushrooms (usually Russula brevipes) parasitized by another fungus, Hypomyces lactifluorum.
