‘Shocking and sobering’: UK bird populations fall to lowest level on record
Nearly half of species are in decline, with farmland birds and seabirds the worst hit, conservation bodies have said Wild bird populations in the UK have fallen to their lowest level since records began, figures show, with nearly half of species in decline. Figures produced by leading nature conservation bodies for the government show that average populations across 132 native breeding species fell by 19% between 1970 and 2025, with farmland birds and seabirds the worst hit in recent years. Can you revive a zombie river? Our cities are full of rivers that have been buried in concrete after industrial pollution filled them with filth. But there's a global drive to bring them back: to "daylight" these forgotten rivers. I had a lovely day out in Sheffield today, seeing it actually happen.

Made just this one because forgot dentist appointment. Like, the notifications can be mad annoying, but dammit, I need them sometimes. Went then lost soup mojo. I stop at farm to get some produce for more soups and my winter storage. Anyhow, this was good.

People who are entitled generally don't get that this is the side eye they are getting unless it is stated as such.

If the bird was also such a part of the place and it's programming, I can see someone giving her the side eye thinking she could just buy it. Probably not first person who tried. There are so many kinds of side eye and I think it is valid to give the "I know you think you're entitled" side eye.

Soup season. Starting three of them. This one is a take on peas porridge. Also have one that uses honeynut squash, sweet potato, ginger, and a few other bits and bobs from the pantry. Trying to clean the larder out and make quick meals for this fall.
A stock pot on a glass stove top. Veggies and split peas floating in a vegetable stock seasoned lightly. Steam rising as it warms.

As someone who hosts a ballot research party every year (tomorrow, in this case) and sends out the results to those who couldn't make it, I get why people turn to someone else to tell them how to vote esp in CA with all the ballot measures but COME ON.
