On December 30, 2024, the temperature was at a record high for the time of year. Given that La Niña suppresses temperatures, the question is what is driving up the temperature. The black linear trend shows a steady, rapid temperature rise. The red non-linear trend better follows variable mechanisms (such as El Niño & sunspots) and it indicates that, as La Niña will end in the course of 2025 (as predicted) and the associated temperature suppression will end, the temperature rise will accelerate (and this acceleration may have already begun at the end of December 2024).
