It's Banned Books Week. My fellow librarians, listen carefully: your book displays should be almost exclusively writers who are alive. Yes, I know classic literature is also being banned, but most of those authors are dead. They aren't suffering financially from bans and challenges.

My uncle died from cancer. After being in remission for 25+ years, the cancer returned as esophageal cancer. Fuck cancer. 💔

From what my dad told me, it sounds like it might have been the cancer he had over 30 years ago… but I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m happy he had those extra decades though

My uncle (the one who died this morning) fought leukemia around the same time as my baby sister. He almost died from it - had to have a bone marrow transplant. But medicine gave him over 20 more years. I’m grateful we and his family got the extra time with him.

I know that, in Colonial America, the marriage pool was small. Didn’t know it was THAT small. My family tree (especially in MA, CT, & RI) looks like a wreath.

I hadn’t seen my uncle in a long, long time but I’m still sad. I didn’t expect him to be the first of my dad’s siblings to go. My aunt lost her husband (my uncle) a couple of years ago and I always thought she’d go first, since she also had major health issues.

Mine settled in MA, CT, PA and RI. Some families had like 10-12 kids, most of whom went on to have 5-10 kids themselves. And there are about 5-10 main families my family married into. It’s gross how slavery was so common.

My family has been in this country for almost 400 years. Since many were upper class white folk, there are a whole bunch of enslavers. I was trying to understand how they reconciled Biblical teachings w/ enslaving people. The answer? They cared more about white supremacy.
