The roster needs more bottom up work. Dubon resigning is more crucial than a DH. Jim Jarvis would be the SS, Profar and Murphy are your bench right now and they're probably immovable without eating the money.

The reality is: -you have two more years before Ronald hits the open market -Ozzie will need to be replaced internally by that time too, even if he somehow gets an additional single year -your highest paid asset is a paperweight -the problems can't be fixed by signing free agents this offseason

Something like: JDG, Seager, Eovaldi for Riley, HSK, Profar, Ritchie, Southsine, Hartman, Murphy would have been risky, but it's the ultimate "win before Ronald leaves move" and it all falls apart the moment JDG says no. Without both P, no Seager. No JDG or Seager, Eovaldi says "nahhh."

My head canon is Alex has been talking with Texas since the offseason about deal different packages for any 2 of them, and yesterday he tried to make Texas sell for the future by offering to trade for all 3 of JDG, Eovaldi, and Seager in one fell swoop.

The Blue Jays trading away Kevin Gausman just to trade for Jose Soriano is a perfect indication of how the trade deadline sucks now. Nothing of any value gets moved mid season, prospect returns are worse all around. It legit just feels exactly like how the old Aug waiver trade deadline period felt.
