I watched all of Walker, Texas Ranger (for whatever reason), but this depiction of Chuck Norris from "The Ultimate Showdown" is still the one that pops into my head any time I hear his name. #ChuckNorris

Darn, if only there was some place I could work where I didn't have to listen to several ongoing conversations, sniffling noses, burps, many simultaneously typing keyboards... Can't think of any place that might be possible. Certainly didn't work in one for several years recently.

A minorly interesting package tracking email. I find it interesting that the subject line is purely in French, with no English there at all. French first in the body as well, but followed by the English text as well. To be clear, I'm not saying this is a problem or […] [Original post on mstdn.ca]
A screenshot of an email from delivery company UniUni. The subject line of the email is in French. The body of the email has a block of text in French first, followed by an equivalent block of text in English, explaining that my package was delivered. A button sits below both blocks of text that is labeled "Track My Package/ Suivre Mon Colis"

I had wondered why one of my air quality sensors wasn't reporting back for the last couple of days... Turns out I unplugged it by accident when I was cleaning behind the cabinet next to it. Whoops! I had put off looking into it because I assumed it was something more annoying.

Worth repeating: Claims of "AI" democratizing anything (coding, creative endeavors, etc) are always BS. The thing locking out people from doing that is not having the time/resources. You want to democratize coding/art/creativity? Give people paid time off to do it and access to infrastructure […]

@chris It absolutely is! I think the other thing I love about it is how... Untainted (?) it feels? Aside from the rest stops, it's just "a frozen canal" and feels very natural. Even at the rest stops, there isn't music blasting to take you out of the moment.

A screenshot of a Bluesky post from Kate Compton:

You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test

Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)

Good tech.

Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)

Bad tech.

Just got back from skating the canal this morning. Conditions were a bit hit and miss. While a lot of the ice was in really great shape, there were definitely a lot of deep pressure cracks and "potholes" (for lack of a better term?) I recorded the whole skate though, so I'll be doing some minor […]

@jfmezei Yeah, you see a decent number of people with speed skates. This year and last year they've really upped the quality of the ice (or the weather has better cooperated) and it's been *really* nice to skate on, even with just normal skates. I feel like they have to have actively started […]

Did three laps of the Rideau Canal this morning! Ice is in great shape, and as usual, it's nice and quiet in the morning. Once 11:30ish rolls around, it gets a LOT busier. First beaver tail and hot apple cider of the season as well! My newly acquired PAX Aus merch […] [Original post on mstdn.ca]
A slightly askew shot heading down the canal, looking towards Chateau Laurier in the distance. Skaters head up and down the canal. Leafless trees line the side of the canal.A killaloe sunrise beavertail (fried dough covered in sugar with a lemon wedge) and a cup of hot apple cider on a brown picnic table.Another view down the canal. A more open section with less skaters visible. The sun shines down, keeping the view nice and bright on a clear day.A selfie of me with my large beard which is filled with frost. Next step is to actually commit and make the switch to a Linux desktop. I've done it in the past for my school laptop, but never did it on my main PC because games didn't work well. With Proton and everything, I think it may actually be viable at this point.
