Fun FF3/Dissidia Fact: Onion Knight's "Ingus" costume is called "Deformation-Style" in the Japanese version. Unlike the Luneth costume (which is named "Luneth-Style" there too), Onion Knight's facial features do not change to match Ingus'. #FF3 #Dissidia
Renders of Onion Knight's Ingus (ENG)/Deformation-Style (JP) outfit. Notice Ingus' Gambeson is visible in the Sage outfit. While Onion Knight's swords are blocking it from view, the Ninja outfit also has Ingus' pendant, which is used as his personal sigil in some job outfits. Notice that Onion Knight retains his green eye color and dark blonde hair.A render of Onion Knight's "Luneth-Style" outfit from Dissidia 012. I thank FFRK for being brave enough to not only have Onion Knight and the DS characters interact, but to have a Captain Planet/Chaos set up where they empower him (or he empowers them; read: Ingus). Dissidia could NEVER.

I was excited for the cameo characters in Final Fantasy Resonance until I realized that there is a non-zero chance that each game is represented by one character and FF3 just has Onion Knight again. I'd be happy to be wrong, but after OO, I refuse to give an inch anymore.

The image generally takes inspiration from Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars, which was the one game in the Alex Kidd series to feature Stella. However, inspiration was also taken from Alex and Stella's appearance in Archie Sonic/Mega Man: Worlds Unite.

It's based on the soldiers' outfits from the FF3 manga, although they're close enough to the Famicom version's designs that we took cues from those.

While not specifying what exactly, Tanaka also claims in a different interview that a lot of ideas that went unused in III were repurposed for SoM/SD2. Both Tanaka and Ishii would remain away from FF until Sakaguchi brought them in for XI.
An excerpt of Play Magazine's August 2006 issue. Here, Tanaka not only reveals that certain ideas from Final Fantasy III were reused from Secret of Mana, but also that he always wanted to give the protagonists of III personalities, something he would mention again in the official Final Fantasy III strategy guide.

Another notable contributor to early FF is Hiromichi Tanaka. He joined Square alongside Sakaguchi and is responsible for a lot of the planning and programming of early FF titles. He was interested in a real-time battle system for Final Fantasy IV-

The Seiken Densetsu/Mana series is the brainchild of Koichi Ishii. He was a key member of staff on the early Final Fantasy titles (1-3) and made significant contributions to III (the job commands were his idea, a lot of the battle visual elements were him, etc). He also started Grezzo.

Infinite Echoes Advance is a fun game. But I couldn't help but make a sprite comic out of what happened in my recent playthrough.

Tonight's Final Fantasy III tidbit, shocking, is not directly about the remake. Specifically: FF3's job system was actually inspired by Shmups like Gradius and Zanac (EGM Feburary 2007). (IcouldveswornthequalitywasntthatcrunchywhenIinitiallyfoundit)
A scan of an excerpt of Electronic Gaming Magazine's interview with Hiromichi Tanaka, who worked on both the original and the remake. In the excerpt, Tanaka states that Final Fantasy III's job system was inspired by "contemporary scrolling shooters" (i.e. Shoot-Em-Ups/Shmups) such as Gradius. The various weapons allowed the player to deal with different situations, which the devs figured would be interesting to implement in a RPG, allowing characters to change jobs on the fly.

In contrast to those two, the Onion Knight seen in Dissidia uses "boku", which also casual but otherwise the opposite - it can be seen as gentle, childish (usually for boys), soft, etc. To put it into perspective: Arc, the shy bookworm with the occasional tantrum in unused text, uses "boku".
