Today's four random pieces of palaeoart: Mauricio Antón's Smilodon fatalis, Dmitry Bogdanov's Dvinia and "Fortunodon" (Vivaxosaurus), @bobnichollsart.bsky.social's Bonnerichthys, and Petr Modlitba's Carnotaurus!
A snarling, striped sabre-toothed cat in a grassy plain. Its paw is held at the ready, claws unsheathed.A small, furry cynodont comes face to face with a horned, burrowing dicynodont. The roots of a tree frame the burrow, wrapping around the animals alongside horsetails and other greenery.A huge pachycormid fish gapes its huge mouth as it swims through sunlit waters. Behind, a huge elasmosaur lunches toward a mixed group of small fish and baculitids.A slenderly built, earthy-toned Carnotaurus stands atop a rocky hill, overlookijng the land below. Its long tail whips around gracefully, lined with small spines that decorate its dorsal surface.

Beast Wars lenticular “winking” flip-up watch! What time is it? 1999! The second of two promotional “spend £x on Beast Wars & get a free watch!” watches from Hasbro UK. The eye “winks” as you move the watch. This is from 1999 so the eye should really be the Transmetal one but eh, it’s still awesome!
Beast Wars lenticular watch - a grey plastic watch. The straps are adorned with “Beast Wars Transformers” logos and the Maximal & Predacon symbols. The face features the Beast Wars reddish orange reptile with yellow eye logoA close-up if the eye open…… and closed! The effect isn’t actually all that great but big points for effort!Flipping up the cover allows you to check the time so you know when Beast Wars is on! We are aware that during one of this year’s talks, controversial statements about the promotion of generative AI in palaeo-media were made. This component of the talk was not included in the presentation brief that we approved for show.
We want to make it clear that DinoCon does not support the use of generative AI in any way. We’d like to thank the amazing array of artists and creators that joined us this year at DinoCon 2026 who we will continue to support in future.

The story of the first dinosaur of China is complicated. With the first named genus being Mandschurosaurus. Fished out of Amur River by cossacks, in 1902, in what was Russian Concession, now Heilongjiang. The largely plaster mount was put on display in St. Petersburg, described by Russian, Riabinin.

Reminds me of perhaps the silliest technobabble in all of Star Trek (from the Voyager episode "Distant Origins"). Janeway: "Computer. Run a genome projection algorithm. If the hadrosaur had continued to evolve over the last 65 million years, extrapolate the most probable appearance."
Scene on the holodeck of the starship Voyager. Janeway and the Doctor are facing towards each other; between them is a holographic recreation of a hadrosaur. Janeway is about to invoke the "genome projection algorithm." From the episode "Distant Origins".
