I did it! I don't have access to my normal hobby space for a bit, which historically has ended my #HobbyStreak, but at least for day 624 my preparation paid off! I made a kit of new paints and brushes to try and experimented on this Thrall

One very cool thing: the Thralls are are built in pairs, with some pieces interchangeable in the pair to make the 4 poses into 8 distinct models.

I'd definitely start with the LEDs and spot lights, adding a tube (ideally matte black on the inside to absorb it) to further cut the scatter could also help those

You could try aiming the flashlight through a hole in something, or even remove the mirrored back from the flashlight. The problem you have is that curved mirror behind the bulb is sending light in at angles that overlap and bypass the thing you're trying to capture shadows from

Finished up the concept Talon for #HobbyStreak day 616; I did try a warp-y green tint on the claws, but it was distracting from the mutation and too much of a deviation from the army scheme so I repainted it back. Also started the base layers on the rest of the squad

Grabbed the opportunity and spraycoated my Warp Talons and their boss for #HobbyStreak day 613, then I spent my time experimenting with mutation schemes; I really want to get the daemonic element in so I think I'm going with something like this (poor test marine, he's been through a lot)

Home, "home," it's all the same leavemealone. I have taken hobby stuff with me to events before though, but it was so I could have some quiet hobby time watching terrible hotel cable shows in a desperate attempt to recharge enough social battery to not be homicidal the next day. Highly recommended!
