The government should either ban gambling ads completely or unban smoking/cigarette ads.

It is good for data sovereignty as we can run cheap chinese models on our own servers - greatly reduces reliance on US big tech

They claim it’s so they can keep prices low but that’s just not true, it costs more than European or Australian meals too!

Alabanese, Hanson, Starmer, Farage, Lowe - it doesn’t matter - it’s not just the US, Westminster countries are all supportive, frothing, excited, and most importantly, complicit; we deserve our ongoing decline.

Holy moly - on an hour by hour basis the gender pay gap does not exist and has been debunked a million times, can we stop discussing or doing research specifically into it (ATO reports is enough we do not need specific commissions)

Makes sense, for some reason EU/Canada/UK and Australia do not believe in cultures, they genuinely want every country to look the exact same no matter where you are - I guess it would cut travel related climate issues as there would be no point going anywhere

The trouble is - if you listened to the government and bought a house at a 5% deposit like they were encouraging everyone renting to do, right up until budget night; and now you’re under financial stress and need to sell (or move) and your house has gone down they’re in negative equity and are f’ed

It is really alarming your numbers do not line up with ASIC & you have dodged like a pro questions about CGT changes for shares. You keep responding “It’s about the imbalance of people investing in housing until this point” That’s our point… Your $250 tax cut is f*ck all, your CGT screws young ppl

“The Albanese government has secured” It is a default indexation that happens based on an independent agency - cmon man, don’t be like the coalition, take credit for things you’ve actually achieved (EG renewable energy uptake, very valid) You’re giving pundits ammo otherwise.

Thomas @th3s0ap.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
You gotta admit the government has been misleading saying “the coalition is voting against tax cuts ($250)” even though labor has done their classic omnibus bill style. And Chalmer’s numbers are not consistent with ASIC, they need to get their act together.

Objectively speaking this is very valid

They claim they did it to get the people rorting family trusts but there is a ton of lower asset family trusts that got caught in the crossfire

Im agreeing they should pay the same tax as someone who got it as income, but not more tax that is super weird, its just an admin thing if its in a trust or personal name

Thomas @th3s0ap.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
But now if you are near retirement and have $40K income from a trust from shares,vs in your individual name, even if you’re the sole beneficiary - you pay more tax than the income directly in your name. The gov. is charging thousands of dollars a year for asset protection even when there is no rort

There is 0 benefits to fossil fuels, no one is disagreeing; what is he saying is if energy middlemen do not pass on savings of green investment to people who can’t afford EVs and they pay higher energy bills from gouging - they will be more susceptible to fossil fuel propaganda

Thomas @th3s0ap.bsky.social · 27/04/2026
That’s not what he’s saying - he’s saying support will reduce if power prices don’t go down alongside renewables - Rudd is also the one who introduced Carbon pricing before getting removed…

The Federal Court has today ruled that Australian citizen Dan Duggan will be extradited to the United States, where he faces up to 65 years in prison for conduct that wasn’t even an offence under Australian law. It's deeply distressing news for so many.

"The report said that although profits were taxed at a higher rate, the Norwegian government also took on project and development risk via direct equity holdings in gas projects." Cool, better nationalise the industry then.

The claim is true. Japanese companies are on-selling a lot of Australian LNG and making a lot of profit while doing it.

If the govt had brought in a 25% tax on gas exports when it came to power in 2022 it would have raised $68bn by now and the missed revenue is growing every second. Check out our gas tracker gas.australiainstitute.org.au
Screenshot of the Australia's Gas Giveaway counter

We have so far missed out on $68,183,006,739.12 dollars in revenue had the Albanese govt put in place a 25% gas export tax when it came to office in 2022
