summary: Yin Yu hadn't known that it could be like this. That existing on this earth could feel so… tranquil. Not the bone-grinding, slow trudge of work, not the suffocating weight of endless expectations and impossible standards to live up to. Not the silent nights spent all alone in his room, haunted by all his life's mistakes and regrets.

But this. Strolling down a beach at sunset, hand in hand with his shidi. Being loved so wholly and ardently, as if he were something special and precious, someone truly worth all this painstaking effort.

Digital fanart depicting a dieselpunk AU of the novel Heaven Official's Blessing. In a narrow alley illuminated by warm Chinese lanterns, Hua Cheng, who's an android with butterfly features, like six limbs and wings, looks at Xie Lian, whose appearance is human, while the latter is about to enter a building. Xie Lian looks back at him, hiding his face from view, and holds a suitcase with his right hand. There are silver butterflies fluttering around, one of them touching Hua Cheng's fingers.

I am happy to present Tempered in Green Embers, a QiuRong enemies to enemies with benefits fic written for the TGCF Reverse Big Bang 2024 hosted by @tgcfrbb.bsky.social featuring art from @heebiebeebies.bsky.social

“You know, I think you are afraid. I think you’re ridden by guilt because you left Guzi behind. That’s it, isn’t it? Why else would you come to his room? You’ve probably been watching him for years through that lamp, and now you think you can slide back in and uproot his life. You’re not a beacon of hope, Qi Rong. Your torch won’t light a path for him. I won’t allow it.”

Tempered in Green Embers
Serpex

“Get off your fucking high horse. I don’t have to explain myself to you, but you should know I’m not here to play god. I don’t force people to choose their fates.” Qi Rong scuffed his boots on the floor, eye drifting to the open window. “Do you want to hear that you’re right? You already seem to believe that you’re better than me. So, keep doing your righteous lessons and godly paths.”

Tempered in Green Embers
Serpex

Summary: “You can talk up a storm for all I care, but now you have no way of running away from me. The collar makes it so you have to listen to every command I give you. If you get hurt, that’s on your own terms for not listening.”

All of a sudden, Qi Rong spat on him and chuckled at his shock. “Oh no, I’m so scared. What the hell are you going to do with that little string? Gonna make me lick your boots, dance like a jester, or maybe, you want me to be your obedient little doll so you can play with at any time. Do your worst, little god.”

Lang Qianqiu sucked in a breath. Qi Rong wanted him to do his worst? Fine then, he could do that. He had already debased himself once for the ghost. Maybe, this would teach him to put his money where his mouth was.

“Let’s see you make a promise on those words, then.”
Qi Rong returns almost a decade after he’d dissipated and upturning Lang Qianqiu’s world overnight. His arch nemesis had returned, and his purpose re-ignited. Yet somewhere along the way, Lang Qianqiu discovers other desires hidden deep beyond the shadows of his hatred.

Since when did killing each other turn into carnal acts of pure lust?

Modern day Xie Lian is standing facing a red wall full of ornate golden frames, full of paintings featuring the version of himself and Hua Cheng in canonverse.

Now on AO3: Gallery of Memories
by give2figs
Summary:

Xie Lian was not entirely unfamiliar with being in the presence of attractive people; the rich spared little expense to look their best when they were trying to impress their peers, after all. There was just something about his fitted jeans and worn leather jacket, far more casual than one would have expected at such an event, that made it all seem so effortless. Xie Lian was sure he must have looked like a slack-jawed fool, but the odd-eyed stare of the stranger appeared just as astonished.

They had certainly never crossed paths before, but Xie Lian couldn't shake the inexplicable ebullience of familiarity, as if nearly every part of him was delighted to see this man, and only his mind hadn't gotten the memo. Still, he was compelled to ask, "Have we met before?"

The man's shapely brows drew together, and Xie Lian felt a pang of guilt for having the audacity to disturb the flawless landscape of his features with such a silly question.

"No," he said. "No, we haven't."
