This week marks 5 years since the first Covid restrictions came in. Yesterday's news on disability benefits just adds to the sense that these years have been pretty relentless for people we help. Some quick takeaways from our latest research into how people's lives - and budgets - have changed:

This report is just the start of our work on hidden deals. We’ll be thinking more about what this means for consumers with mental health issues, and all consumers, getting fair access to good telecoms deals. Regulators should be too.

We worked with @moneyandmentalhealth.org to survey people with lived experience of mental health problems. We found that although 3 in 4 people surveyed tried to haggle, the majority (85%) found that their symptoms made this hard.
This is a summary image highlighting key points of the report. The intro text reads 'Haggling for people with mental health problems. Nearly 3 in 4 people with mental health problems we surveyed have tried to haggle with their telco provider. But for every step of the long and sludgy haggling process, more respondents who haggled found the task difficult than easy.' This is followed by 3 sections on the consumer journey, starting with 'before reaching their provider,' then 'once in contact,' and finally 'after hanging up the phone.' Under each heading is listed details of the aspects respondents found difficult. The closing text reads 'Respondents whose mental health problems qualify as a disability were even more likely to find the haggling consumer journey to be difficult.'

When your fixed term telecoms contract comes to an end 📱 🌐, haggling with your provider is one of the ways to avoid your bill shooting up 📈. At @citizensadvice.bsky.social , we're worried that not everyone has equal access to these 'hidden deals.' 🧵 www.citizensadvice.org.uk/policy/publi...
