still think this is a fun story
Screenshot of a small thread I posted on Twitter back in May 2024:

people talk about the dorito peasant but imagine being a premodern peasant in East Asia and a bard wanders into your village and tells a part of The Water Margin or Romance of the Three Kingdoms just completely explodes your mind and you're all talking about Guan Yu afterwards

my favorite anecdotes about this, and I'm just paraphrasing a lecture from uni, was a testimony from white missionaries who got kidnapped for ransom by bandits in late Qing China, iirc, and the bandits apparently spent all night talking about their favorite Water Margin stories

just instantly brings to my imagination being some guys living out in the woods robbing people to survive and all your free time is spent arguing about the power levels of the coolest guys from the favorite oral classic stories

If you have a developer education budget at work, I would really encourage you to use it on your favourite developer educators. A lot of us are deciding whether or not to keep doing this stuff, and that support would help send a signal that we should keep going. ❤️

Some of you will hate to admit it but you do have to accept that this is a commuting square in an appropriate category
A picture of a man in a convenience square from behind captioned "What's bro wearing 💀💀". His shirt has a 6, a 7, a 9, and an 11 in a square. Between the 6 and the 7 is an arrow with a laugh-crying emoji, between the 6 and the 9 is an arrow with a picture of stick figures 69ing, between the 7 and the 11 is an arrow with the 7/11 logo, and between the 9 and the 11 is an arrow with a picture of the twin towers being hit by planes.

Ah yes, "Because recommend help us"
1. Because

Whether you’re asking to cut someone in line or explaining your reasoning in a presentation, the word “because” can make you more convincing, Wharton marketing professor Jonah Berger told Make It in February.2. Recommend

Replacing “like” with “recommend” carries a similar kind of power, Berger wrote in his book, “Magic Words: What to Say to Get Your Way,” which published last year.3. Help

Knowing how and when to ask for help can make you more influential, according to Henna Pryor, a Philadelphia-based workplace performance coach.4. Us and we

Using inclusive language like “us” and “we,” instead of “you” and “me,” can make people more receptive to your arguments, according to psychology research from the Stanford Graduate School of Business published last year.

The problem with being Multidisciplinary is that anytime you have an Idea you hold it up to all the different pieces of media like "oh this should be a short story... no maybe it's better as a game... no maybe a webcomic..."

What does it mean for the probability to be five percent? Well, that’s five percent. But six percent? Well, that’s still five percent. Four percent is also kind of five percent. Three percent is two percent. And two percent is basically impossible.

are you fucking kidding me not only is there a West-eros and an E(ast)soss there's also a South-oryos
Wikipedia excerpt of "Sothoryos", a continent from A Song of Fire And Ice:

Sothoryos

To the south of Essos is the continent of Sothoryos[25][115] (mistakenly spelled Sothoros in early novels).[116][117] Sothoryos is the third continent of the known world, and is vast, plague-ridden, covered in jungles, and largely unexplored. It is reported to be as large as Essos and described as a "land without end" by Jaenara Belaerys, a Valyrian dragonlord from before the Doom of Valyria.

The continent is first named on a map in A Storm of Swords (2000), showing the cities of Yeen and Zamettar on it.[25] The narrative itself first refers to the continent in A Feast for Crows (2005).[116] Martin had described Sothoryos in 2002 as "the southern continent, roughly equivalent to Africa, jungly, plague-ridden, and largely unexplored."[S 56] The novels provide little other information. The swampy nature of Sothoryos is briefly referenced by Victarion in A Dance with Dragons,[115] and teak from Sothoryos is said to be used to build ships.[117] A corsair's road runs along the continent's northern coast.[115] A Dance with Dragons refers to the diseases on Sothoryos regarding the wealthy but sick Yunkai'i slave trader Yezzan zo Qaggaz.[118][119] Victarion describes some people as "squat and hairy as the apes of Sothoros",[116] and some people fighting in Daznak's Pit for Daenerys's entertainment in A Dance with Dragons are described as "brindle-skinned half-men from the jungles of Sothoros".[120] Martin said that, unlike other peoples in the novels, the brindled men of Sothoryos were pure fantasy constructs.[S 49]
