this is so true! I don't WANT to make shit about gender studies, there's WAY more qualified and patient people out there to do that!! But there's this weird expectation that if you're a trans creator you're just making educational shit focused on trans issues and frankly it blows

look I'm not saying all game designers have to be autistic or on a spectrum but if you can love anything in this world whole-heartedly the way some people love trains, your game design abilities will probably benefit. including trains. it is known.

Here's what I actually think these incidents reveal (instead of a rogue AI terminator situation): Much of the infra we expect to be hardened is actually being held together by glue and popsicle sticks.

AI can now detect, automate, and chain together exploits faster than any human hacker can. That is significant. Which means that the system vulnerabilities once considered not so low hanging fruit are actually very low hanging.

'It's hard to judge the games the same way once you try to make one' Is so real. Some people have a hard time saying something sucks once they've been there. I'll still say it, but outside a few examples, it's almost affection. The context and conditions of creation matter so much.

Oh, that's ... not good. If I go dark tonight or for the next few days, this is why.
A weather alert advisory for the City of Toronto issued at 5:01 PM EDT Wednesday 2 September 2026. Red Warning - Severe Thunderstorm, Impact Level: Extreme, Forecast Confidence: Very High.

This extremely dangerous thunderstorm is moving southeast at 40 km/h. Destructive wind gusts, golf ball to tennis ball size hail, and very heavy rain are possible.

Fair, I've also only been using it entirely on new repos where the behavior contracts are still being designed and in-flux.

But maybe my own perspective's skewed here, given what I've historically worked on, where real-time performance and security are all there is, and the Venn diagram is just a circle in that context.

I also still try to keep my codebase compact and easy for both humans and agents to reason about in the future. Good architecture first goes a long way, and you save mental cycles and tokens. "Lines of code" has never been a good measure of quality in the first place.

I'm a proponent of test-driven development, myself, but I still regularly find myself in situations where the unit tests were insufficient and I've spotted defects by reading parts of the codebase myself. Not every line, but the high-risk parts like packet encryption or game update loops.

this scenery got me into watercolor art on its own.
Concept art from Final Fantasy 6, by Yoshitaka Amano, rendered in watercolor. Set against a blue sky which bleeds into smoky yellow plumes of dustclouds below, an ethereal castle rises high in the sky.

i didnt touch on it in my post but after the movie we were talkin about how insane it is that Ghibli's legacy in culture at large is this image of wholesome, quaint tranquility and like... their best works are potent and angry movies. Screams of desperation in no way cloaked or dulled.

I'll echo VoidBurger here, hot dogs are more often shrink-wrapped and refrigerated. (at best, the only kind of canned sausages i've seen are something called vienna sausages, but those are the exception, not the norm, and not what people think of when they think 'hot dogs')

I am vastly more interested in specific ways it causes people mental damage and behavioral problems, but none of these are "it makes you kind of suck more when it's gone because you got used to it" which is literally all good tools, you gotta be more specific

Like maybe it's some other kind of addiction, sure, but this is also exactly the behavior you would expect to see if it was simply any useful tool of any kind.

I don't find the "AI tools train you to rely on them" thing very compelling, like yeah, that's how good tools work. It sucks when someone takes away your phillips screwdriver or your autocomplete IDE or google search for APIs. What you're saying when you say it is actually "It's a good tool."

(this reply is largely aimed at software programmed with genAI coding tools, where the program is the output) (as for software which also incorporates some kind of AI in it, like how Google replaced its search bar, 100% agreed that that's a new class of problem. ugh.)

I think when it comes to programming software (just wrt the "running slowly" part), AI has amplified the results of practices that teams were already doing. It's an accelerant, not the root cause. Wirth's Law has been around far longer than AI, but AI did make an already bad problem even worse.
