Good summary of the keystone cops attempt by far right scam artists to claim Talarico had a mental breakdown. But I wish there was more focus on the person behind this, a groyper street thug from Oregon who is a fan of the Freikorps and whose political ideology lines up 88% with Hitler’s.

In 1919, Germany's defeated soldiers came home only to be stabbed in the back by socialists and communists who wanted to burn the nation down and install a Soviet-style dictatorship.
The Freikorps rose from the disbanded Imperial ranks and smashed that red revolution before it could finish the job.
A century later the same poison is back—now joined by something even more alien.
Far-left radicals still despise their own people and culture, while Islamists answer only to Allah, reject every core of German and Western civilization, refuse to assimilate, and carry out violence in the open name of their religion.
Germany will not be saved by tolerance, dialogue, or more empty promises.
It needs a modern Freikorps-men who put the homeland first and are prepared to stop both the leftist traitors and the Islamist invaders at whatever cost.

I was at a conference last week where a well known 1st Amendment professor claimed it was silly to think that free speech was under attack in the US because people at that conference were criticizing the administration, so clearly everyone felt free to speak.

A little scoop before Oct 7, when ICANN publishes 1,000+ applications for new top-level domains: one of them is .bsky! It's a long road (18 to 24 months), but if it goes through, handles like alice.bsky become possible.

i used to do 8:00 appointments with my therapist in peoria and the only reason i started asking for later times is because they called me half a dozen times when i was halfway there to tell me that my therapist called out. i did it once too when i got a flat outside metamora.

what i meant to say is that—despite being pro-conspiracy—this is a very good show. some small bloopers made it on screen here and there but the writing is actually really good, and tho patriarchy is still evident (especially early) they did a pretty good job for a 90s show in shaking all that off.

now in season 5. the soundtrack started to get more tolerable toward the end of season 3; the atonal stuff was minimized to its proper place (suspense, fear, etc.) and tonality took over, tho it's typical "inspired" tv stuff that slightly rearranges classical hits. that's always a fun game.

the men generally do not have much in the way of moral code. they all grew up in churches (almost required for status in this world) where the only boys who practiced christian morals irl were losers. the girls are expected to join in, but risk losing status if they do. there's little risk for men.

despite sorority girls regularly engaging in wild frat house parties—it's virtually required in sororities that you socialize with men in particular fraternities with a similar social status, or in partnership with your sorority—it's a lot easier for a woman's reputation to be damaged than a man's.

Terez @terez.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
sororities are not officially segregated anymore but they are de facto segregated with few exceptions. the white sororities with the highest status (i remember ΔΔΔ having high status on my campus) tend to be populated by the most physically attractive white girls, sometimes very samey-looking.

i think this is especially true in greek life, a status symbol bc dues are expensive. girls who grow up with money and do cotillion etc. are trapped in an antiquated social order whereby a girl's primary goal in life is to attract a good husband. some sororities have higher social status than others

we're conditioned to desperately seek mend frays in our social circle, to smooth over any possible drama, and for her that was especially true in the case of the perpetrator who apologized to her afterwards. he knew what he did, but she was socialized to minimize the harm that was done to her by men

it didn't occur to her even though she had compulsively done the same thing in the aftermath, and was actively trying to dig her way out of that socially constructed hole that so many victims fall into after the assault because they've seen what happens to women who try to stand up for themselves.

cornell is a good school and i'm not saying she didn't know the definitions of the words that she ultimately used. just that it didn't occur to her that describing it as implication would give the cops the wiggle room they needed to tell themselves and the DA that it was consensual and not criminal.

the parenthetical at the end of this passage implies she changed her story. this is a woman who knew what happened to her but didn't have the language to make herself perfectly clear. we're not socialized for specific language like that; we're socialized to euphemize www.nytimes.com/2026/10/02/n...
screenshot of a passage from the gift-linked new york times article. content warning: description of traumatic sexual assault. the passage reads:

She then described being in a bedroom as the evening escalated, with up to seven men entering and leaving as the night wore on — some having sexual contact with her and some snorting ketamine off her body, she said. She described feeling coerced, being “pretty incapacitated” and “numb” and feeling trapped.

“I felt like hiding under the covers of the bed was the only option for me at that point, because the individuals who had just entered the room were standing between me and the only exit from the room,” her statement said.

The transcript of a Nov. 14 interview she gave also contained more definitive language that the police omitted from her statement: “I can say with 100 percent confidence I was raped.”

The language in her recent lawsuit was stronger still: It said she was “incapable of consenting” when she arrived at the party, was “forced” to have vaginal and oral sex, and that one of the men “commanded” her to snort ketamine off his penis. (Her police statement said he was “implying” she should snort it.)

Like the anti-woke backlash of which it's part, the whole "campuses as hotbeds of left-wing radicalism" discourse willfully confuses the noise for the signal. Most people go for a job credential and leave deeply socialized into the protocols of power, of which violence against women is central.

i have come to realize that opioid-crisis era pain doctors get paid a lot of money to aggressively pursue nontreatment of your pain. and it's not just when it comes to opioids. any possible treatment for pain is to be avoided; their goal is for you to never come back and just learn to deal with it.
