Oof, yeah, I miss those creator rewards. I only got it a handful of times, but that extra $100 actually helped pay at least small bills. Pretty much the ONLY reason I've stayed is because that's where I've gained most of my readership from, but even that's dwindling these days. 😮‍💨

110

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

They really should be! I think in like 2022, the highest rate I got was like $0.63/1K views, but that was one time, and the rates have completely fallen off a cliff the last 2 years especially. It's almost always $0.12 or less now.

000

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

For real, it kinda seems like it! 😭 Which sucks because some of my all time favorite comics to read have been from Canvas! It's always cool to see what people make on there!

020

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

For real. Like maybe mention the median income canvas creators make, if you want to present the info in a reasonable way. They for sure know what they're doing by wording it in such a vague way.

010

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Yeah, you're definitely not alone there. The only reason I can make comics AT ALL is because of working a part time normie job, doing conventions, selling books, having Patreon, and being in a 2 income household. WT acting like we just need to "try harder" always gets me fired up.

120

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Yeah, and them moving canvas top 30 did a lot of damage too. It was at least possible there to find new eyes as a smaller series if you posted semi consistently, but now you have to bank even further on luck/getting noticed by the staff.

120

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

I'd give them a lot of credit if they said that, ngl. 🤣 Let the creators make an informed decision on if those pennies are worth it or not. (But of course, creators won't work as hard to make content for you if you don't present it like a carrot on a string!)

110

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Unfortunately, even updating every 2 weeks doesn't change it. I've been doing that consistently with a decent sized series and I've still had my views/growth fall off a cliff since that update too. So you're definitely not alone 🫂

140

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

They just posted another one on their youtube today, plus all of the other stuff they've already posted on canvas corner, the FAQs, canvas summit presentations, other videos on youtube, etc. It's so dishonest, it's maddening.

120

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

I did make way more income on GC and probably would've stayed there, had they not done that AI crap with my comic last year. 😮‍💨 But yeah, generally speaking, none of these comic platforms offer even semi decent rates. Printed books/patreon has been the most reliable thing for me, by far.

140

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

My advice to new creators: don't count on Webtoon for income. Set up a patreon, a tip jar, or try to eventually print books through something like Kickstarter. There's not a ton of money in comics in general, but there's certainly more income to be found in those other places than on WT Canvas.

1110

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

On top of that, more and more, canvas is being walled off from access to that userbase too. Every change they've made to the app's UI has killed reach for even established comics like mine. I can't even IMAGINE trying to hit that 40K views for ad rev as a new comic today.

1110

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

I know they won't, but I just wish WT would at least be honest. They do have a large, semi accessible userbase, which is why everyone hasn't left yet. But the idea that anyone outside of the top 5% or so of comics on there make ANYTHING even remotely livable is insanely dishonest.

190

Paige Critchlow / TENACITY @tenacity-comic.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

SO sick of Webtoon making videos/posts trying to trick newer creators into thinking there's any money in Canvas. I make $1-3/month in ad rev from my 23K sub series, posting twice a month. (I've gotten as little as $0.06 per 1K views) At that's me being "lucky" Most canvas comics earn NOTHING.

DO NOT APPLY TO OR ATTEND THIS SHOW. I don't care if it's in your backyard. You can bet that every convention runner is watching this and the bad ones are salivating at this idea of $150 application fees, plus jacked up booth rates. If it works for this show, they WILL try it at theirs.
