In high school (early 90s) I worked at the Christian radio station in my northern MN town (lol the haggling we had to do to get to play CCM on Saturday nights!). I wandered away from CCM once I hit college in the mid-90s and missed the whole transition to praise bands (which I’m now learning about!)

I saw them at The New Union in NE Mpls back in the day, and it wasn’t until meeting @snipy.bsky.social (much later) that I learned they at some point weren’t christian (or not broadcasting it anymore)!

The book is a well done, enjoyable read - both for filling in for me a lot of historical context that I hadn’t fully been aware of that underpinned what eventually became CCM, a little nostalgia about the good bits of CCM (for me) during my formative years, and a whole lot of “ughhhhh yep gross.”

Hell yeah Petra - one of the best youth group trips we had included a retreat in FL with another youth group (circa ‘91/92) where Greg X. Volz did a solo concert for us, and my youth group did a skit accompaniment to The Color Song while he sang it. 🙃

I’ve carried Childhood Trauma™️ about Watership Down for my entire life, though the specifics of exactly why were faded by the mists of time, could only remember crying watching it as a child.
