Looking for manga recs for a 9 year old girl who loves fantasy, dragons, and female protagonists. She loves anime. I've been getting her into studio Ghibli movies. She likes reading but is slow, and I was thinking that manga could help her with that.

My biggest criticism of Silent Hill Townfall (which is, I think, overall a really good story) is how Zoe is aware the loop is a thing but seems in ignorance of the things she's supposedly already gone through. Like, she seems simultaneously tired of and surprised by the repetition at once.

Gave Root a play (the board game, not the TTRPG). Pretty fun game. Although any asymmetrical game is going to have a steep learning curve, the base factions are intuitive enough it's not terribly difficult to pick up.

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

Saw a YouTube video like "The Secret Meaning of the Monsters in Townfall" and I thought of Mark Twain talking about how learning about boating the Mississippi River took some of the magic away and I'm missing some of the mystery you feel before you learn things mean things, if you know what I mean.

The thing that most separates Silent Hill F and Townfall from previous entries is how individual actions are couched within larger, systemic constraints. I guess the cult in 1, 3, and 4 kinda count, but it's really not the same as fighting regional culture or corporate machinery.

I try to hammer this home in the unfortunately many conversations I have with non-creative normies about the state of games, animation, etc. They have all been lead to think AI is replacing us, and it’s just not true. The money people have by and large just tossed us aside for a shiny new toy!

OH. right! i get it now!

i get why AI is so depressing to me. because covid already shrunk my world to almost nothing, where almost all of my life revolves around socializing and watching videos on the internet (which is being ruined by AI) and creating creative works through coding (which is being ruined by AI), often using open source tools and libraries (which are being ruined by AI)

i already had so little and now even that is being rotted away before my eyes
