A visit to the river Ammer, one of the few successful long-term reintroductions of #Myricaria germanica in the Alps. Thanks to the knowledge and boundless commitment of B & F Gindhart!

The meandering section of the Tagliamento has been largely ignored by scientists. Yet it exhibits fascinating dynamics, significant shifts in the river’s course, still backwaters, and gravel bars in different successional states. We will devote more attention to this section in the coming years

The mapping of #Natura2000 habitats in Alpine rivers is handled very differently across member states. Our new study shows that no single method accurately captures the actual situation. As a result, changes in the habitat situation go unrecognized. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Field trip to the Monte Toc landslide (Vajont dam disaster) together with Michael #Krautblatter and Sophia Gahr from the #TUM chair for landslide research. And yes, we found #Chondrilla chondrilloides there :-)

A short post on the latest project by Wolfgang Weisser and Thami Croeser. They modeled how tree felling in urban environments would impact biodiversity in cities, and the findings highlight the tremendous value of old trees. www.ls.tum.de/en/ls/public...

- Copyright

Another bad example of well meant flood protection measures. The braidplains of the Kireas river in Evia, Greece were "cleaned" after several larger floods.

This study adds to previous work showing that Welwitschias and Quiver Trees are threatened by climate change, as their current ranges become too hot and dry for even these desert survivors to flourish. 6/6 Read the full paper here: www.mdpi.com/2223-7747/14...

The #Tagliamento is the last preserved larger Alpine river in Europe. To preserve this unique riverscape and its ecosystem, our website, www.tagliamento.org, is a first start to raise awareness, collecting information about the river and bundling the communities and activities around the river.

The Tagliamento River is one of the last morphologically almost intact Alpine rivers and an ecosystem of European importance. Plans to build retention basins in its most natural sections threaten its integrity. Join the initiative supported by scientists from 35 countries: freetagliamento.org
