A visit to the river Ammer, one of the few successful long-term reintroductions of #Myricaria germanica in the Alps. Thanks to the knowledge and boundless commitment of B & F Gindhart!

The meandering section of the Tagliamento has been largely ignored by scientists. Yet it exhibits fascinating dynamics, significant shifts in the river’s course, still backwaters, and gravel bars in different successional states. We will devote more attention to this section in the coming years

The mapping of #Natura2000 habitats in Alpine rivers is handled very differently across member states. Our new study shows that no single method accurately captures the actual situation. As a result, changes in the habitat situation go unrecognized. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Field trip to the Monte Toc landslide (Vajont dam disaster) together with Michael #Krautblatter and Sophia Gahr from the #TUM chair for landslide research. And yes, we found #Chondrilla chondrilloides there :-)

Selecting the right outplanting sites is crucial for successful conservation translocations and reintroductions of plant species in dynamic riverscapes. Habitat suitability modelling and subsequent connectivity assessment are a promising approach. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Not river ecology, but interesting insights into the dynamics of alpine alluvial fans: our presentation at #EGU25: "Constraining centennial to sub-annual sediment dynamics on alpine alluvial fans" doi.org/10.5194/egus... More about the ecology of the alluvial fan: www.zobodat.at/pdf/Tuexenia...

Another bad example of well meant flood protection measures. The braidplains of the Kireas river in Evia, Greece were "cleaned" after several larger floods.

Plant translocations and reintroductions for conservation purposes are often unsuccessful. Sandrine Godefroid and colleagues have summed up the outcome of over 3000 plant translocations across Europe, their outcome and reason for success or failure. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
