Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 2hJust me or is this graphics package triggering Rock Band/ Guitar Hero memories for you too? 010
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 14/10/2026Lookin back at is an old nerd, I don’t know of a real fix, but there should be a whole category of “definitely fun to read but don’t let it affect your worldview in anyway.” Much like the category we retroactively created for Lovecraft and Friends, “Nope”. 020
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Ha, "Play that dead band's song" is pretty much a perfect summation. 1150
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 11/10/2026How does that work though? Think of it like someone you hire to do yardwork - whatever tools you own which you allow them to use is what tools they have. 010
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Spiritually, I think open weight models and an open source standardized fence for agents would be a lot more promising than "I hope these capitalists prioritize me over dollars". 020
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 11/10/2026I think I agree fully with this. Been working on a proper audit trail (started today actually github.com/tclancy/ai-a...) because I don't think it's realistic to ask users to police this. It may be we rethink what "using a computer" means, e.g., controls come with the agent, but ... ick.github.comGitHub - tclancy/ai-audit-trailContribute to tclancy/ai-audit-trail development by creating an account on GitHub. 240
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Hey CBS, as a fellow old guy, can I get a trigger warning before you tell me Kirk Cousins felt like his Achilles tendon was "full of concrete"? I am trying to keep mine from tearing and you're making me teary. 030
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Yes the idea is every agent should have an allowlist of tools and verbs/ actions with those tools, but the question is really: how is this enforced? Because it feels like a gentlemen’s agreement sort of thing right now. proper sandboxes are possible (I think) but we are all too lazy to do it. 140
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Patriots are in their throwbacks which inspired one of my fellow fans to wear his TAXATION IS THEFT dress T-shirt to the game. Old school patriotism there. 010
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Sure, it other than the obvious thousand or so issues with each and every one of his ideas, what could go wrong here? We relocate Avignon to some sheep farm in New Zealand, declare each of us Antipope for a week and then after you, me and the next antipope, we get wiped off the face of the Earth. 020
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Richard Sherman, I love you, but the last time I saw that vest on tv, Bat Masterson was in it. unless you’re opening for Mumford and Sons, probably time to put it in the Goodwill pile with Timberlake’s fedora. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Same. Some times I tell my wife I wish I’d been born earlier in the 70s, “when Catholicism and country music were lefty”. 070
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Jim Nantz just teased the VMAs with Madonna and “jaw-dropping acts“ which I assume is a cute way of saying the other elderly people will have dentures fall out. 000
Reposted by TomCollins Watch @collinswatch.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Susan Collins's bet, clearly, is that there are a non-trivial number of Dem/Indy voters who have been programmed for so long by the Maine press to believe she's pro-choice that it doesn't matter what she says or does. They simply won't believe otherwise. That can't be allowed to stand. #MEpolitics 44617
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I just proposed to my department head that "QA for AI" may be best done by an "arsonist fireman" who creates problems and then, given no dev team has cycles to spare, fixes the problems. While he said he thought that made sense, he did not respond to my request for a job title change. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 23/09/2026@jessshulman.bsky.social just wanted to say your cryptic crossweird entry has to be one of the best-clued puzzles I’ve ever done. Thank you so much. 030
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026The end of that is how my dad sends emails to service providers. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026The real takeaway for me from this Pats game: looking at the visitors sideline (tv perspective), there is a bright spot of red around the right-hand 31 yard line which must be Ed Sheeran buried up to his hair line. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026You call it a “business decision”; Aaron Rodgers calls it a ”darkness retreat”. @miketanier.bsky.social 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Learned a lesson about calling game over, but we now have a three-way tie: 1 squirrel escaped 1 killed by dog 1 so tired it let me pick it up and put it outside Am I rubbing that in the pets’ faces? Reader, you know I am. 010
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Hang on, that whole Bud Light campaign set in some Middle Ages kingdom where every ad implied I was not a man for liking beer stronger than “sex in a canoe” levels of corn syrup and hops? That wasn’t the inflection point? 001
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I went through that stage of grief after laughing about the ad too. Now consider the glasses work as well as they pretend in the ad. Then consider three years from now when they shut down the api and brick all the glasses. Then consider lighting the world on fire like I think every night. or not 110
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Jesus that’s both such a verbal stretch AND an old person reference I should have called it in from a pay phone. 010
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026As an Irish American I don’t know where in the Samhain you got that idea from. 210
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Made the mistake of going downstairs to play video games. Two dogs, two cats. currently down 1-2 vs the “chipmunks” (technically red squirrels) and I am the one of us who knows exactly where your man is. I keep offering him free passage but I think he may just feel safe among these clowns. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026We have All Saints Day with All Souls Day immediately after. Literally no ceremony but I like to think it’s because there’s a huge backstory to those being clamped together. 100
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026One of, if not my favorite, video game moments of all time, was getting spun by a cop in Vice City just as the sun was coming up and Night Ranger’s Sister Christian was blaring in my car radio at like 2am in real life as I hit reverse and made it into a Pay and Spray. Up there with beating Tyson. 020
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I dunno if it’s hubris or some curse or what, but the end of the Chipmunk Crisis was actually like a four hour interregnum. So now it’s Chip, Dale and one even dumber than Dale. 001
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026If you see this handsome fellow today, wish him a happy birthday. 010
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Not to pile on, but at this point I have Brennan Johnson with -3 goals for Everton *in this game*. And there are 25+ minutes to go. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Commentator misstated "set piece" as "set piss" but this being Everton, it turned out prescient. 010

Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026All uphill from here: neighbor started shooting off fireworks at 5:30am. Not unusual for NH but went on so long I picked up my phone to see if it announced any beloved world leaders had popped their clogs. No such luck. 010
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Yes but if we turn “regulatory capture” into a shortened B School phrase, it becomes “rapture” and you can see the confusion. 020
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 19/09/2026In case anyone was on tenterhooks, our Chipmunk Crisis ended somewhere around hour 40 in a 1-1 draw. One dude slipped out the door, one dude slipped off this mortal coil. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 18/09/2026$2 off the cover price. $5 in 1998 seems wild, but I guess they knew their target market. 020
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Day 3 of The Chipmunk Crisis. I now accept I am fully alone. The big dog hunts rodents like drunks look for their keys. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 17/09/2026That damn dog up there, I saw one of the chipmunks in his mouth. Something else I saw in his mouth once: the decapitated body of a groundhog he was really proud of. And rightfully so. 000
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 17/09/2026What is it about this house that turns stone killer animals into avant-garde artists working in the medium of live rodents? At least the older cat can protest we took most of her teeth. Plus she made the Hall of Fame for the bat and snake back in the day, so retirement is fine there. 100
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 17/09/2026The Big Lad has a real “To save the village we had to destroy it” energy. I will not the irony of Jenga somehow not being in pieces. 100
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Chipmunks are so goddamn stupid I can only assume a Marvel Team-Up of two of them makes them geometrically dumber. Whether it is Zan or Jayna who hasn't made it home yet, I have to get on a call. Sorry. 100
Tom @tclancy.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I was going to congratulate the chipmunk that survived 18 hours and two floors of our house having been caught by three different animals and yet I managed to shepherd out the door while one of the dogs and one of the cats continued to look for him. Except: apparently there were two of them. 100
