Political scientists have a bigger list.

Sure, that's part of fascism, but lots of belief systems do the same thing. Fascism is more than that.

Lots of leftists use the term whenever the police arrest someone on video.

The jokes people make reveal actual attitudes; it's naive to dismiss them. "Many truths are said in jest."

Dunno, not sure someone reading a romance novel every week tells you anything positive about them. Depends on what they're reading.

MAGA activists are criticizing Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s inclusion of a white man in her Arkansas political ad—a lurid reminder of how influential identitarianism has become in segments of the American right, @dgraham.bsky.social argues. theatln.tc/BYdEcwp8 📸: Markus Schreiber / AP

"We are headed in a direction where what comes after Trump...It’s going to be even nastier, it’s going to be even more corrupt, it’s going to be even more hateful. You can lose people by behaving this way. And Texas GOP is showing that." — Alan Elrod, political theorist 🧾 t2m.co/RvmBhCY

Transcript: Fox Drops Brutal Poll on Trump as GOP Panics: “Wake Up!”
As the Trump-GOP position worsens, a political theorist explains why Trump-MAGA’s corrupt and depraved misrule has created space for a values-based Democratic politics to emerge.

Most schools note an improvement, but it's unlikely that results will be "amazing".

I will defend their inability to address an envelope. I haven't done that in 20 years. It's almost an obsolete skill.

It's such a moronic claim. And even if it were true, there's the glaring challenge of succession. How do you ensure the next dictator is benevolent?

ahhh....liberalism?

Taylor Grayson @taylorgrayson.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
You mean the humanities, not liberal arts. Liberal arts includes, for instance, computer science and other STEM subjects. Still, I'm baffled that people advance this argument for the humanities; it's the source of many of the worst ideas, as well as the good ones.

Some argue that these rectum stories were spread to tarnish the gay community, like the oft-debunked story of gerbils.

Most other glues don't bond instantly, though. All the ones that do come in tiny tubes. Because they don't last, I suppose.

It was instantly implausible to me: crazy glue comes in very tiny tubes.

Yep and by doing that, it lends credibility to the Republican claim that "something must be done". What must be done is for them to stop lying.

that distrust didn't come from nowhere. It was started and is spread by baseless fraud claims from Republicans, and this WaPo piece leaves that out ... it's missing the central part of the story.

I get the impression that a significant portion of the population is deeply disturbed in some way and it's only with the advent of social media that these folk have found others like themselves.

The article mentions one of the pedagogy experts I mentioned, Carl Hendrick. It's slightly concerning that he might be sacrificing his reputation to be involved with this by sipping a bit of the Kool-aid.

I'm not sure what's describe is totally discovery learning; it *sounds* more like students are to search out sources of explicit instruction. Still not good. However, the fact they they told to figure out for themselves what are reliable sources of information could be seen as discovery learning.

Taylor Grayson @taylorgrayson.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The pedagogy experts I mentioned are very much *against* discovery learning, so I'd be surprised if that were true. I would think discovery learning would even be hard to implement with AI.

Ugh, so many questions, complicated by the husband being transgender, because there are questions you're not supposed to ask. So the husband is a biological female: where did the three children come from?

Chait admits the defense of meritocracy wasn't genuine in that very paragraph. Perhaps his choice of "forthright" wasn't appropriate, but the sense of the word doesn't necessarily include the notion of genuineness, but rather "direct and unambiguous".

They'll fail because it's a stupid idea, but they could succeed in destroying the government. We'd end up with a new one, but probably a much worse one, because we had wiser men 250 years ago.

True, but there are a lot of vertical strokes crammed together and a quick glance could see an "m". I think everyone in this thread would have misread it had they not been prepared.

Taylor Grayson @taylorgrayson.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
My bet is that most cursive writers would misread it and see the more familiar word. We didn't because we were forewarned about the confusion.
000
Taylor Grayson @taylorgrayson.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
You don't write a b or h that way in cursive, though. This is more a reading comprehension thing: even if you read it as "Obama", you should stop and think about whether that made sense in context.
