The average boomer in the suburbs who claims “Brandon is the worst mayor in the city’s history” is going on vibes-only. Moreover, people forget the most important quality of Brandon Johnson is that he was not Paul Vallas, who was Trump-aligned, anti-abortion and the grim reaper of public schools.

“You can’t even go to the mall no more without a parent. You can’t go to the movies no more — they’re asking for a parent and stuff like that,” said Ahmir Peterson, 16, a student at Kenwood Academy High School. “There used to be teen jobs, but those jobs are taken by adults.”

Sure glad city council decided to spend a few hundred million on a new parking garage this week. Definitely a move that shows we are a serious city and are responding to the climate crisis with the urgency required.

Austin’s Surge of New Housing Construction Drove Down Rents
After decades of explosive growth, Austin, Texas, in the 2010s was a victim of its own success. Lured by high-tech jobs and the city’s hip reputation, too many people were competing for too few homes....

I think at this point you have to vote for Stratton even if you prefer Kelly. "Stratton leads with the support of 32% voters, Krishnamoorthi is at 30%, and Robin Kelly remains in a distant third place with just 13% support." demlgs.org/new-ppp-poll...

Some Cook County judicial candidates who are virtually assured to breeze onto the bench have liabilities that might hurt them in a contested race — including one with a history of failing to pay income taxes, and one who only recently moved to Cook County.

again, what is interesting to me about this stuff — beyond the obvious fact that what trump wants is propaganda — is that it is grounded in a political theory which holds trump to be the sovereign will of the nation, who can impose his demands on every aspect of the nation's society

Scientific findings can only be “repealed” with other scientific findings which disprove the original result. There is no science out there that says that says fossil fuels aren’t the overwhelmingly majority cause of our current era of climate change.

Lincoln Square Road Closure and Accompanying Comments From The Local Facebook Page (April 2025)
Picture of kids and adults gathering on Lincoln Square, playing jump rope. Text overlay saying "I will never understand the appeal of playing in a street"Picture of Chicagoans of all ages lounging on Lincoln square, enjoying a beautiful spring day. The sun is out and there is chalk art covering the ground. In the foreground a man in sunglasses sits on a yellow bench. Text from a local facebook group reads "It's really unfortunate that they feel the need to create this kind of chaos for the community, our square, and the small businesses trying to thrive here, this feels like a targeted effort."
a man blows bubbles for a group of children playing in Lincoln Square, the kids are jumping and pointing at the bubbles. many adults are circled around watching. A quote from the Lincoln Square facebook page reads "FORGET ABOUT IT. Ban kids from playing in the street."A wide shot of Lincoln Square. People are congregating in the road, lined up to patronize local businesses, or sitting on the curb watching neighbors stroll by. A truncated facebook comment states "how dare you... People like you in this community absolutely disgust me."
