Fixed! 💜 It was the CRC32 byte order and needing to use "#pragma pack(push, 1)" and "#pragma pack(pop)" around the IHDR chunk structure definition, so that it'd be 13 bytes, instead of rounding up to 16 bytes. Here's the triceratops skeleton render from a while back with a transparent background.

I unexpectedly hit another Twitch achievement earlier today, so that makes 2 this month: 250 hours total streamed, and now 40 hours streamed in 30 days! 😸 There's only one other achievement I'm aiming for this year. The other achievements are much farther off. Thanks to everyone for the support 💜

I managed to get a visualization working that can show polygons that cross themselves, going inverted (counter-clockwise in green, to clockwise in blue), and where both CCW & CW overlap in a triangulation (grey). We raided @criticlog.bsky.social , who's raising money for The Trevor Project!

Here's a more cleaned-up version of a diagram I drew last stream, explaining how the area of a quad is just half the area of the parallelogram formed by its 2 diagonals, which you can get with just the cross product of those diagonals 😺 The quad shown is convex, but this works for non-convex, too!

I know there are silly examples about A.I. summaries giving people obviously wrong food advice, but they can also give plausible but wrong food advice that can make you sick, like this case I ran into the other day. Stay safe and never trust A.I. summaries!

About 11 months until we get more data on trans & non-binary folks in Canada from the 2026 census! Also, in about 17 months, we'll get the first census data on sexual orientation. It's hard to get reliable data on this from surveys, so I'm excited! 🤩

I've finally gotten through implementing cos(turns), sin(turns), atan2Turns(y,x), cube root, exp2, log2, pow, sRGBToLinear, and linearTosRGB using Chebyshev polynomials, Taylor series, and bit manipulation. It was a lot of work, but it'll be worth it.

I already have a silhouette for my pngtuber's glow outline 🌟 I turned the base image into a signed distance function (each pixel value being the distance to the boundary, or negative if inside), then applied a falloff and colour map to that to make the glow. I created an image similar to the one above on stream today. Bitmaps, PNGs, and many other formats store images in sRGB, since it prioritizes darker colours, better matching how our eyes are more sensitive to darker colours, which is how the true linear gradient on the left here looks less "linear",

If the middle third looks more like the left third, the image is being resized incorrectly. When viewed at full resolution, the middle third looks more like the right third. This demonstrates the importance of rescaling images and blending colours in linear colourspace, instead of sRGB.

Like many programmers, I tend to go a bit light on the comments in my code, but I've found it useful whenever I think "Why?" looking at existing code, or when I think I'd wonder "Why?" in the future, to make sure to add an explanation, even if it might be a little difficult to explain in a comment.

A long comment in C++ code. It starts "How far off can localQuotient be from the exact quotient for this iteration?" This is followed by a sequence of mathematical expressions, and then the text "This means that the difference is strictly less than 2. If the numerator is still greater than or equal to denominator, subtract one more of it, and add one to quotient. That will ensure the difference is strictly less than 1, so all of the bits computed in this iteration will be correct."

However, I changed how it checks for when to exit, so that race condition can't happen now. That means, I no longer need to lock the stack there. I can read the top of the stack, and if there's a task (not null), replace the stack top with the next task, as long as no other thread changed it first.

Last night, I learned that I should work through difficult logic *before* stream 😸 The thing I was stuck on simplified a lot after realizing the desired value after the "compare_exchange" is always the same, no matter what the previous value is, so it could have just been an "exchange".

It seems to find the server now, but gives the SSL certificate error in the attached Firefox screenshot. Hopefully it's another simple fix. I don't know much about certificate issues. If I press "Accept the Risk and Continue", it does continue to the correct site.
