Tautology @tautology.uk · 05/10/2026Hard nope. Our Sunday trading laws have been outdated for decades. There's no justification that a minority of people still get to force their "special" day onto everybody. I think a floating weekend would be a better solution: I would love to swap Sunday with Wednesday as a day off. 180
Tautology @tautology.uk · 04/10/2026My granddad in his late 80s used his computer most days to design things, write things, email things, view websites, deal with accounts for himself and a charity he volunteered for. It's not age, it's attitude. Also, a 1975 birth is not old. Please tell me it's not old. 110
Tautology @tautology.uk · 04/10/2026It's a mostly midlands and northern thing to call it tig. I always thought southerners were just channelling Americans when they called it tag until I realised it's just one of the many weird ways of speaking they do. 120

Tautology @tautology.uk · 20/09/2026I get around 25 - 30 days out of my instinct 2 solar. Less if I track and activity, more if I'm being lazy. Certainly makes a lot of difference from my old Vivoactive. 112
Tautology @tautology.uk · 20/09/2026One of the problems is that they undertake when you're *still* overtaking. I've had other drivers come from lane 2, pass me, and then move into lane 3 with mm to spare from the car I'm overtaking. Similar has happened whilst I'm leaving a safe gap before I pull in after an overtake. 110

Tautology @tautology.uk · 06/09/2026Although I hate Chris Rea, his blandness and the horrible timbre of his voice, I think I would've preferred that to the brass band music my dad chose to listen to. My sprogs get played metal and they should bloody well get used to it. 180

Reposted by TautologyJoachim Froholt @jfroholt.bsky.social · 01/09/2026A few years ago, I was working on making a dungeon crawler for the Sharp MZ-80A. It used a mix of traditional character graphics and pseudographics. Development eventually stopped, and it's been sitting around collecting dust since then. 14816

Tautology @tautology.uk · 21/08/2026Even worse, she had similar problems trying to get her mother (who had Alzheimer's) to sign over power of attorney. 000
Tautology @tautology.uk · 21/08/2026I broach this with my mother every time and keep trying to get her to move closer. Even her recent stay in hospital, and my having to drive up and work from her house (3 hours away) hasn't gotten her to put something in place. Strong willed septu- and octogenarians are a pain. 100

Tautology @tautology.uk · 15/08/2026Howabout, wait here, make sure you don't have any liquids / semi-liquids in your carry on before you get in the security queue? Its not as if there aren't plenty of places to buy anything you need after security / when you land. 110
Tautology @tautology.uk · 15/08/2026I used to admin a system that put scans of documents into long term storage. When it came around to storing customer emails, management came up with a plan to print them, scan them and archive. I suggested just storing them and was greeted with blank stares. 170

Tautology @tautology.uk · 08/08/2026The idiots who wait 'til they get to the end of the security to *start* unloading their pockets. Do it in the queue! The worst was the lady who took everything out of her coat pockets and put them into the tray. Then took off coat and put it in said tray. 000
Tautology @tautology.uk · 06/08/2026I used to do comment threads asking popular LLMs to draw things. Sometimes they started okay, then they went a tad insane. I started with plug wiring diagrams. Though they did get betterer. Saying that, Gemini just gave me a decent one. ChatGPT's looked good until you read closer. 010
Tautology @tautology.uk · 05/08/2026BitD, my mother was doing an OU degree, where she did one module in computing, which required programming in Pascal, she got said Pascal language for our MZ-700. Tautology @tautology.uk · 03/08/2026This is why I never got on with computing at university: it's all number theory maths, which may be technically correct, but it's a massive pain to apply to anything real. 020
