This thread captures the issues with the idea of “viewpoint diversity” which liberals bandy about in good faith, but which conservatives wield in bad faith (and so with the uncritical backing of liberals). He shows that this is not a new thing, but part of a long-term deliberate strategy.

My author Q & A on the UC Press blog: "A thread running through the whole book that resonates with modern reproductive issues is how patriarchy and misogyny feed systems that privilege fetal and infant life and health over maternal well-being."

I have literally never cared about anything as much as Republicans (including those on the Supreme Court) care about whether someone was actually born with a penis.

My favorite comment on the FT story
Personally I'd be impressed if they could make something as smart as an ant. Ants only have 250,000 neurons, which is pretty small compared with GPT-5's reputed more than one trillion parameters. And yet ants are able to survive all by themselves in this complex world of ours, without endless infusions of investor capital or government subsidies. I don't think GPT-5 could do that.

The NYTimes is coming hard for c-sections today (!) One article addressing "the worst test in medicine" (continuous electronic fetal monitoring) and how it leads to unnecessary c-sections (known & ignored for decades) (1/6)

This is how I feel about many of my toddler's books. They're just giving him ideas. I had to hide one potty training book because it was all about how he shouldn't use the potty for anything except pottying (e.g. as a boat or a container for snacks). Such things had never occurred to him.

I cried watching Mamdani's acceptance speech today because it's so incredible to see an American politician fighting for straight forward, tangible things that would make life better for people like me, like free buses and subsidized childcare.

No one has ever asked this, but this is the kind of bravado we need right now 😂
“There are moments in the world’s history when people look back and ask ‘Where were the lawyers? Where were the judges?’” Coughenour said. “In these moments, the rule of law becomes especially vulnerable. I refuse to let that beacon go dark today. As a judge, my job is not only to uphold the law but to protect the rule of law itself.”
