Supporting the wonderful Amalia @amvrpic.bsky.social theme #showheart give it a go and join in. Here’s me trying to do a heart in a forest on a winter’s night with a torch, camera and tripod for company. I emphasise trying to. Be kind, I photograph birds. 🤷‍♂️😂 #photography #EastCoastKin

Black-and-white long exposure photograph taken at night under a star-filled sky. In the centre of a forest clearing, a bright torch has been moved to create a glowing heart shape made of light. The heart hovers above a gravel path, with faint smoke or mist softening the scene. Dark silhouettes of tall trees frame both sides, and the stars sparkle sharply overhead, giving the image a dreamy, romantic atmosphere.

A stretch of path, warm autumn light, and that calm feeling that only a late-season walk can give. #photographersofbluesky #photography #fotografie #naturfotografie #gooutside #takeawalk #hamburg

A sunlit forest path in rich autumn colors. Trees with golden and orange leaves arch over a dirt trail, while the low sun shines through branches on the left side of the image. The ground is scattered with fallen leaves, and the path leads toward a brighter clearing in the distance.

A last pale bloom in the autumn field — Scabiosa ochroleuca holding on, soft against the greying wind. Some flowers linger, not to defy time, but to finish their story gently. #photographersofbluesky #photography #fotografie #bloomscrolling #botanynerdwanders

A single pale yellow Scabiosa ochroleuca flower stands tall among dry brown grasses. The soft background is blurred, giving the impression of a quiet, fading meadow. The flower’s light tone contrasts gently with the muted autumn landscape, evoking a sense of calm and resilience.

Small architects at work — where moisture and decay meet, mushrooms raise their quiet designs from the forest floor.

Pluteus cervinus — the deer shield. Just one fruit of a vast, hidden organism quietly recycling the forest from below. Light, decay, and renewal all share the same space here. #photographersofbluesky #photography #fotografie #macro #naturfotografie #thesmallthings

A close-up of a single Pluteus cervinus mushroom growing from the forest floor. Its pale stem lifts a wide, brownish cap with delicate gills glowing softly in low, moody light. The background fades into deep blue and black tones, creating a sense of quiet depth. The mushroom stands like a small sculpture of light amid the dark, damp woods.

A tiny fly rests on the smooth brown cap of a Pluteus cervinus mushroom. The insect is sharply in focus, its delicate wings catching a hint of light, while the rest of the scene fades into deep, soft shadow. Northern Germany in autumn — oaks and beeches still holding their gold, the air rich with leaf oils and soil scent. Each step slows the mind, each breath a dose of nature’s quiet chemistry. #photographersofbluesky #photography #fotografie

A forest path in northern Germany, carpeted with golden leaves. Tall oaks and beeches arch overhead, their fading foliage glowing in warm sunlight. At the far end of the path, two small figures walk beneath the trees. The atmosphere feels peaceful, filled with the scent of earth and autumn air — a place where time seems to breathe a little slower.

A walk in autumn is more than a pause — it’s nature at work. Trees reclaim nutrients, fungi weave the soil, and the air fills with geosmin and plant terpenes, compounds that quietly steady our minds. Decay and renewal are never far apart. #photographersofbluesky #photography #fotografie

A calm autumn landscape under a pale blue sky. Golden birch and oak trees stand in loose clusters across a field of tall, dry grass. The sunlight is soft and low, brushing the scene with warm tones. The mood feels peaceful and introspective — the quiet balance between the fading of the year and the renewal already stirring in the soil below.

Calliphora vicina, the bluebottle fly — not glamorous, but essential. It’s among the first to arrive where life has ended, setting in motion the quiet work of renewal. Every buzz is part of the system that never sleeps.

Close-up of a bluebottle fly (Calliphora vicina) resting on rough, light-brown bark. The fly’s metallic blue body shimmers faintly, and its large reddish-brown compound eyes dominate its small head. Fine details of the legs and wings are visible, while the softly blurred background creates a muted, natural tone that highlights the insect’s subtle iridescence.

Nimbus contaminatus — a dung beetle found where beauty meets decay. Though it spends much of its life in the quiet work of recycling waste, here it pauses on a Scabiosa columbaria bloom, partaking briefly in the gentler business of pollination.

Close-up of a small dung beetle (Nimbus contaminatus) perched on the pale lilac petals of a scabious flower (Scabiosa columbaria). The beetle’s body is shiny black at the front, with finely textured brown elytra showing subtle stripes and hairs. The soft-focus background isolates the insect and flower, creating a calm, earthy tone that highlights the contrast between the beetle’s dark sheen and the pastel bloom.

The Small Copper on a thistle — a spark that refuses to fade. Late in the season, it moves with unhurried grace, still tracing the memory of summer in each beat of its wings. #macroinsect #wildlife #naturemood #autumnlight #botanynerdwanders

Close-up of a Small Copper butterfly (Lycaena phlaeas) perched on a fading purple thistle bloom. The butterfly’s wings, orange with black spots and edged in grey, are softly lit and slightly worn from the season. Fine details of the scales, antennae, and thistle florets are visible, while the background blurs into muted greens and browns. The overall atmosphere feels calm and autumnal, like the last warm light before dusk.

Two stages of Scabiosa columbaria — bloom and afterlife. The lilac petals call to pollinators, and when the song is over, the seed head keeps the rhythm — quiet, geometric, alive in another way. #botany #wildflower #macroflora #naturemood #botanynerdwanders #thesmallthings #photographersofbluesky

A close-up of a pale lilac flower of Scabiosa columbaria. The bloom leans gently to one side, its fine petals and long stamens catching soft light against a blurred, dark background. The flower looks delicate and airy, each floret forming part of a perfect circular cluster, a small oasis of colour in the muted surroundings.

A macro photograph of a dried seed head of Scabiosa columbaria. The spherical structure is covered in tightly packed, spiky seed capsules with reddish centers and fine hairs catching the light. The background is softly blurred, making the seed head appear like a small, alien sculpture suspended in still air — the quiet architecture of a flower gone to seed.

The last day of October — clouds gathering like thoughts at dusk. Cumulonimbus towers catch the sun’s final fire before the long quiet of November. A sky between warmth and cold, light and shadow — autumn’s last exhale. #skyphotography #autumnlight #clouds #atmosphere #naturemood #botanynerdwanders

A dramatic evening sky over a dark treeline and a still body of water. The clouds are layered — dark and heavy near the horizon, rising into tall cumulonimbus shapes whose upper edges are touched by warm orange and gold light. The sun is setting behind them, casting a subtle glow that breaks through the grey, while the water below reflects a faint shimmer of that light. The scene feels calm yet powerful — the transition between seasons made visible in the sky, as October fades into November.

10,000 years of partnership — humans and Ovis aries. From ancient pastures to modern fields, sheep have given us more than warmth: their wool breathes, insulates even when wet, and renews itself with every shear. #wool #sheep #ovisaries #pasturelife #macroecology #botanynerdwanders

A photo of a sheep resting in a field of damp green grass. The animal’s wool is thick and matted with bits of dirt and vegetation, showing the texture of natural fleece in late autumn. Its face is gray and slightly weathered, and it gazes calmly toward the camera with a faintly amused expression. The background is soft and earthy, emphasizing the sheep’s rounded form and the complexity of its coat — an a fiber that insulates through air-trapping coils and self-cleans with lanolin. The image feels both pastoral and timeless, a small portrait of an old alliance between humans and animals.
