Was watching a video where a guy was talking about recent casting news for Marvel's X-Men movie, and he said they were looking for someone to play a "Native American male, so that of course brings Forge to mind," and I thought, No, that brings Thunderbird to mind! And realized I am old.

Thunderbird was strong and fast, and kind of a jerk. But I thought he was great. Unfortunately, Wolverine was right there.

It took some sleuthing, but I finally figured out the name of a short story from Isaac Asimov's SF magazine from the late 70s that has been driving me crazy! "The Thaw" by Tanith Lee was so creepy it stuck with me all these years. Now to see if I can find it- Lee is hard to get ahold of.

Vent/rant: roofing company I paid deposit to 2 1/2 weeks ago to fix area on roof under my A/C finally comes out- without the crane the guy said they would need to lift a/c so they could patch area. I call scheduler and he just laughs. I am not a yeller,but I-calmly- yelled today.

I bought X-Men Elsewhen by John Byrne mostly out of curiosity. Don't get me wrong- X-Men was everything to me as a teen, but it was that Claremont-Byrne-Austin magic that did it for me.This book is interesting. You can still see Byrne under the heavy inks. But very little character development.

Today is the birthday of artist Marie Severin (Aug. 21, 1929-Aug. 30, 2018), most known for her work at EC Comics & her many years at Marvel.

Her cover to The Incredible Hulk #102 (1968), which is a dramatic image of the Hulk changing into Bruce Banner.

The Sub-Mariner #16 (1969). The cover by Severin shows Namor struggling to free himself from some sludge. There are several wrecked ships and a man approaching in a small boat. He is holding a lantern. There is a large shadowy image of Tiger Shark in the background.

Today is not fun. We had a big storm last night, which led to a big leak in one of the bathrooms, and I have talked to 3 contractors already. This is why I spend so much time on Trek, POTA, and comics. Adult stuff sucks.
